Earlier in the day, nineteen AP Congress MPs met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi over Telangana issue.

The Prime Minister gave a 40-minute hearing to the 19-member delegation in his Parliament office.

' The Prime Minster has assured us that nothing will be done in haste and interests of all people (in Andhra Pradesh) will be kept in mind' before deciding the Telangana issue,'' Rao told reporters in Parliament complex. 'We understand the situation(in the State),' Rao said quoting Dr Singh.

Rao said they apprised Dr Singh of what they described a very serious situation prevailing in Rayalseema region of Andhra Pradesh after the announcement made by Union Home Minsiter P Chidambaram late on Wednesday night and confirmed in both Houses of Parliament on Thursday.

In Andhra Pradesh, speaking after the House re-assembled, Chief Minister K Rosaiah appealed for peace and sought the cooperation of all parties to sort out the political crisis that arose after the en masse resignation of MLAs.

'We should together make an appeal to the people to observe restraint. We should all strive for peace,' the Chief Minister said.

Rosaiah said that police was trying to maintain law and order in the wake of protests in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

'We are getting reports that students and others in the coastal Andhra region are agitating. Police has entered into Andhra University in Visakhapatnam and is trying to maintain law and order,' he said.

On the Centre's decision to grant statehood to Telangana, he said he had expressed his views and apprehensions to the Central leaders on the issue.

AP House adjourned for the day over Telangana uproar.

In the backdrop of the en masse resignation of MLAs, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly has been adjourned for the day on Friday without transacting any business amid slogan-shouting by legislators over separate Telangana.

Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy sought the opinion of all parties whether the House should continue with its business or not, in the wake of the resignation of 128 members belonging to the ruling Congress, Telugu Desam and Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam.

He made it clear that the MLAs would continue to be members of the House until he took a decision on the matter.

'I have to speak to them before taking a decision. I have to ascertain whether they submitted their resignations under any pressure or voluntarily,' he said.

Responding to a query from Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, the Speaker said the question whether the government is in majority or not would not arise as the resignations have not been accepted.

The Speaker sought the opinion of all parties whether to continue the proceedings or not.

Urging the Speaker not to accept the resignation as it may lead to a crisis, senior legislators from all parties felt that the House should continue with its business as the resignations were submitted in an emotional state.

The legislators, including Chiranjeevi, felt that the government should have consulted all parties before taking the decision.

As the debate was continuing, some members who sent in their resignations entered the House raising slogans against the division of Andhra Pradesh. Those in favour of separate Telangana countered them by raising slogans in support of their demand.

Amid the din, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, widespread protests broke out in non-Telangana regions observing a day-long bandh on Friday to protest the division of the state with agitators damaging buses, staging demonstrations and resorting to road blockades.

In East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, TDP and Congress activists accompanied by students shouted slogans against TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, demanding a united Andhra.

Agitators burnt effigies of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and state Chief Minister K Rosaiah in Hyderabad. The day-long 'Samkhya Andhra bandh' has called by agitators in Andhra and Rayalseema regions.

Incidents of stoning buses were reported from coastal Andhra region and protestors took to streets and damaged a Bhadrachalam-bound bus and obstructed ONGC workers at Amalapuram town in East Godavari district.

They also set afire bus tyres on the national highway here to disrupt traffic movement in the district, reports from Rajahmundhry said.

All educational institutes and business establishments remained closed in East Godavari district. Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport (APSRTC) cancelled transport services of over 800 buses here as a precautionary measure.

Rail traffic in some parts of the coastal Andhra and Rayalseema was also affected due to bandh and security has been beefed up to prevent any untoward incident.#
