In a statement here today, the CPI said the same criteria of disqualifying the MLAs who held parliamentary secretary positions in states has not been followed. The decision to disqualify is taken in a hurry on the day of retirement of the Chief Election Commissioner who was also seen earlier as pro-BJP government at the Centre.
According to the CPI, the Commission and in particular the Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti acted in a manner which makes one conclude that the recommendation was a political one taken to please the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.
