Although there will be entries from our two neighbours Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The Indian Panorama will include 47 Indian films which include 26 Feature Films and 21 Non-feature films.
Films will be screened in retrospective category which include Bimal Roy (on the occasion of birth centenary year), L V Prasad (on the occasion of birth centenary year) and '75 years of Kannada cinema.
In Lifetime classics programme, contributions of Dilip Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, B Sroja Devi and Tapan Sinha will be highlighted who were conferred lifetime achievement award in 2008 in commemoration of 60 years of India's independence.
Five internationally acclaimed pre-1950 films will be screened from National Film Archives of India Treasures.
There will be also a lecture on 'Devika Rani and Himanshu Rai: Globalisation of Early Indian Cinema'.
Homages will be paid to G P Sippy, B R Chopra, F C Mehra, Jayashree Gadkar, Raghuvaran, Mahendra Kapoor, Jeeva, Sridhar, Vijay Tendulkar and Nabendu Ghosh in the form of their films screened.
There will be special screening of films related to the Taj Mahal. They are Shiraj (a silent film- 1928), Shah Jahan - 1946, Taj Mahal - 1963 and Taj Mahal - 2005.
There will be altogether 127 films in the 39th IFFI - 2008.
The competition section will witness the presence of 15 films from all over the world. These include My Mother's Tears (Argentina/Germany), Rupantor (Transfomration) (Bangladesh), The Shaft (China), Kanachivaram and Mahasatta (India), The Song of Sparrows (Iran), The Red Spot (Japan/Germany), Tulpan (Kazakhstan), Pensil (Malaysia), Ploning (Philippines) , Akasa Kusum (Sri Lanka), The Coffin (Thailand) etc.
Film India Worldwide is another attraction in the cinema of world section, which will showcase films made by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in collaboration with foreign filmmakers. The Entries in this segment are Tandoori Love (Switzerland), Death Without Consent (USA), Barah Aana and Chaurasta-Cross Roads of Love (India). The films of Aki Kaurismaki (Finland), John Landis (USA) and Wong Kar Wai (Hong Kong) will be screened in Foreign Retrospective.
Besides, there will be a special tribute to Niki Karimi and Peter Chan.#

No Pakistani film in International Film Festival of India

New Delhi: No Pakistani film will be screened at the 39th International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa between November 21 and Dec 02, 2008. Pakistan did not send any entry, said S M Khan, Additional D.G.(PIB) & Director of Film Festivals, addressing a press conference here.
