A recent article on corruption in India by the New Zealand’s media person was widely circulated and read even among Indian rich as a grave expose of prevalent corruption in India. But none dared to expose arms smuggling from America on huge scale. The underhand arms trade by Americans controls 70 per cent of illegal trade. Even terrorists are able to buy them against cash payments. Yet media from America so voluble on dishonesty of people in developing nations does not even mention cruelty and annihilation of millions of innocent by use of smuggled arms. In 14 newly independent nations of Africa more humans lost their lives in first seven years of this century than total human loss in two World Wars.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to be troubled by the prevalent image of rampant corruption in India as the image stands in the way of inducing the foreign capital from opting India as destination and also for not generating demand for skilled young Indians in nations in crisis due to higher average age of their working forces. Most developed nations are facing acute shortage of skilled hands to keep pace of growth of their economics. India has sufficient number of young to keep growth machines running in entire universe.

The workers average age in Japan is 59 years, in Europe between 52 to 56 years, China it has crossed 48 years but in India it is still 27 years. In addition, China has to indulge in upkeep of 470 million humans over age of 63 years and thus incapacitated to contribute as workers. India has only 79 millions and most of them looked after by their families. Yet demand for Indian hands is not rising. It may have induced the Prime Minister to generate an impression that Indians are honest and not tax evaders as the crated general impression by media from the West.

Demonetization proved beyond doubt that here was no idle wealth hoarded as black money. Now the government seems to be determined to prove that the tax evaded wealth was not hoarded even as gold stocks in most families. It needs to be noted that both harsh steps of the NaMo government bring under direct impact only the class that has majority of supporters of the ruling party, They constitute the traditional vote back of the Bharatiya Janata party. They overwhelmingly supported the Prime Minister even in 2019 election though his first term rule delivered no benefits but only hardship and unemployment to the class. Now new measure to dig out hoarded gold representing tax evaded wealth will bring the class under the stress. No ruler can dare to chop off its support base. A tax official at the door step demanding to know the family gold stock does not provide comfort. Yet he is preparing to eliminate the general misconception that Indian rich are only tax evaders.

India’s reputation took a tumble down as greedy for power position sought to climb the ladder not by their performance but by painting others black. The financé minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh sought to acquire image by condemning India’s business world. Others sought to paint Rajiv Gandhi with dark colours with hurling unproved allegations. The charade is still continuing by blaming the predecessor regimes for inability to deliver on the electoral promises.

In the last decade of last century and first decade of the current century, Indian talent was in great demand. Foreign recruiting regularly came to India with unbelievable offers to educated young even when before they finished their graduation. But slump season came as the Western economies got caught in unending crisis in 2008. Not only recruitment outside dried up but the borders of rich nations shrunk for entry of talents from India and other Asian countries. Rules for job related visa were changed to restrict inflow of talent from outside.

Only in recent time slot two unconfirmed reports were floated that Indian rich have staked huge sums of tax evaded money with banks in their safe custody. No one explained how individuals were able to gain knowledge of deposits of only Indian money from banks reputed for their secrecy wall that even highly reputed intelligence networks have not been able to breach. The purpose of floating such canards was to serve other ends and keep Indians moving out or the foreign capital getting in India to supplement Indian efforts to expedite her economic growth.

The agony of Indian youth was further compounded by Anna Hazare who hurled accusation of rampant corruption in Indian system of political governance. Element of underhand play in the election process had entered in with drastic change in the electioneering style. Bribing electors with money, liquor or other kinds of freebees became a norm. It increased dependence on black money as expenditure of such kind could not be put in ledger or in mandatory returns to the Election Commission. NaMo has not sought purification of election process, instead his efforts are to prove that Indians do not have piles of funds, invested, kept idle or enveloped in gold quantum. The government is considering demanding from everyone to know how they assimilated their gold stocks. Again, the step will cause hardship to the middle class alone, the traditional vote bank of the ruling party though his fan club believes it will hurt only the opposition voters.
