He is so obsessed with his personal gains that he is not bothered of sacrificing the national interest. It is clearly manifest in his virtual remark that no outsider was inside Indian territory in Ladakh which in fact had left everyone including the global fraternity "baffled and bewildered".

While addressing top political leaders in his concluding address after a nearly three-hour-long all-party meeting that discussed the situation on the India-China border, Modi on Friday said: “Na wahan koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai, na hi hamari koi post kisi doosre ke kabze main hai. Ladakh mein hamaare 20 jaanbaaz shaheed hue, lekin jinhone Bharat mata ki taraf aankh uthakar dekha tha unhe wo sabak sikhakar gaye.” ( neither has anyone intruded into our frontier there, nor is any intruder there, nor is any of our posts occupied by someone else).

Modi’s observation “neither has anyone intruded into our frontier there”, is in line with the Chinese claim that they did not intrude into India. Till he made this observation the entire global fraternity had rallied behind India in its condemnation of Chinese intrusion. But after this they made a tactical retreat. While this saved China from further global embarrassment, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian called for a “step-by-step account of the Galwan clash”. “The Galwan Valley is located on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control in the west section of the China-India boundary. For many years, the Chinese border troops have been patrolling and on duty in this region," he tweeted.

It is indeed intriguing what made Modi to come out with this observation. Obviously with USA President Donald Trump extending support, there is no reason to believe that he was under any kind of international pressure to deny the intrusion. It was basically this reality that prompted the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to tweet: "PM has surrendered Indian territory to Chinese aggression. If the land was Chinese: 1. Why were our soldiers killed? 2. Where were they killed?"

Nevertheless he is yet to clarify what he implied when he said “Twenty of our jawans were martyred but not before they taught a lesson to those who had dared to raise an eye towards Bharat Mata.”

His remark also puts a big question mark on the killing of the Indian soldiers. If there was no conflict why were our brave soldiers been martyred? Why Modi preferred to convene the all-party meeting? While Modi denied intrusion, the Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh at the same all party meet conceded that violation of LAC had taken place. The situation took such a proportion that Rahul Gandhi accused senior Union ministers of “lying in order to protect the Prime Minister” after the father of one of the jawans injured in Monday night’s Ladakh clash with Chinese troops said the Indian soldiers were unarmed.

Sonia Gandhi had also told Modi at the virtual meeting that “the entire country would like an assurance that status quo ante would be restored and China will revert to the original position” on the LAC. Significantly Modi’s statement did not comment on it.

Nevertheless Modi's statement is very clear. He means our soldiers intruded in Chinese territory! By not conceding the truth he has swallowed the pride of the country and accepted the altered boundaries. No doubt he is absolutely dishonest.

Tensions between Indian and Chinese troops have festered since May in the Karakoram mountains that separate India’s northern Ladakh region from the desert of Aksai Chin, which is claimed by India but controlled by China. The fact is between May and June, the Chinese military seized about 40 square miles of Indian territory, including area of the Galwan River valley.

After the killings of the soldiers he simply bluffed the people of the country by saying that “peace-loving” India would ensure that the deaths of its soldiers would not go in vain. With such a political stance how could the people expect Modi to revenge the killings? If he is right that Chinese army did not enter into Indian territory, he should explain to the countrymen then how Indian soldiers were killed by the Chinese forces.

Since 2002, his days as the chief minister of Gujarat Modi has invested a great deal of personal and political capital into building a relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he hosted in his hometown, Ahmedabad, during a state visit to India in 2014. He took credit for resolving the Doklam crisis peacefully but soon the Chinese military violated the “mutual withdrawal” by sending troops and equipment back into the disputed area.

One thing is absolutely clear that Indian response has been thoroughly subservient to China. Modi never dared to stand face to face to Xi. The latest incident has completely dented and eroded the strongman mage of Modi.

For the first time since the Kargil intrusions of 1999, Indian territory is in the hands of foreign soldiers. More than 5,000 Chinese soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have intruded into five points in Ladakh – four along the Galwan River, and one near the Pangong Lake. This has happened in the full knowledge of Modi. Shocking indeed even after this why he has been trying to shield China? It is worth mentioning that Modi’s denial came after MEA’s confession that Galwan clash was a premediated and planned action by China.

It is really hard to believe why the Modi government gets away with lies. The Modi government has made lying an art form. What is most shocking is the people, especially urban class, take his words as gospel truth. This non-stop lying was described by George Orwell as doublethink. The lies are so obvious that anyone would wonder why he should lie so obviously in such a blatant manner. Surely, when someone is caught lying they can’t be considered credible anymore? (IPA Service)
