The opposition parties raised the issues of collapse of law and order, rise in crime against women and poor arrangements to deal with Covid 19 in the state.

The leaders of prominent parties are busy in issuing statements or express their views through tweets. But for the Congress, no senior leader of the party is seen contacting people at ground level and combating the propaganda of the state BJP and the Yogi government.

There is no doubt that on the direction of Priyanka Gandhi, the state leadership did some mobilization of party leaders and workers to reach out to grass root level to take up issue of migrant labourers, victims of rise in crime against women and farmers.

But the problem with Congress is lack of support from any dominant caste or community. With very little support of vote share, the party is not able to make impact in the society as it should have been.

All the senior leaders of main opposition parties remain either at home or visit office to issue the statement..They do not move among the people and take up the urgent issues with the authorities, when needed.

There is lot of expectation from Samajwadi Party being the main opposition party.

Akhilesh Yadav has to work hard to mobilise the support not only from Yadav but other backward communities also. He has to realise that there has been erosion in his vote share in past elections.

Although Akhilesh Yadav is critical of BJP government in the state and at the centre but he has to come out of out his comfort zone to lead the agitation against the government to take up issues concerning common man, farmers and dalits.

Muslim community which constitutes 18 per cent of total votes is also looking towards Samajwadi Party.

Bahujan Samaj Party National President and former CM Mayawati is facing credibility crisis as she is seen to be advising BJP government rather being critical of its governance.

During pandemic neither Mayawati nor BSP leaders were seen at ground level.

Whatever may be reasons of BSP, Mayawati is also worried about erosion in her vote bank especially Dalits who shifted their loyalty to BJP which was visible in last few polls.

That is why she is now talking about the combination of Dalits, Brahmins and minority. Although it looks very impressive on papers but it hardly translates into votes for BSP.

At a time when Mayawati was promising statue of Parasuram to win over Brahmins, a large number of brahmins including those from Upadhya family who were projected as main face of party to deal with Brahmins, left the party and joined BJP.

CPI national secretary Atul Anjaan said that while on had BJP was playing religious card in the name of Ram temple at Ayodhya, the three main opposition parties SP BSP and Congress also started playing soft Hindutva card with the promise of statue of Parasuram. Atul opined that the promise to build statue of Parasuram will ultimately help BJP.

Atul Anjaan said why no opposition party was talking about grass root democracy by raising the issue of Panchayard where elections were due after the expiry of the term in December.

Expressing his concern about the politics of religion and caste Atul Anjaan said the irony was that while ruling party was busy with the temple, the main opposition parties were worried with consolidation of their caste support.

Talking about the left parties Atul Anjaan disclosed that all over the state workers were directed to take up issues of farmers, migrant labourers and marginalised section of society.

Anjaan said that left parties would support September 1being observed as protest day to seek redressal of demands for farmers.

CPI national general secretary who is also general secretary of All India Kisan Sabha said all loans of farmers including landless peasants and agriculture workers be waived off.

Atul said that government should reduce the price of fertiliser, seeds and insecticide by 50 per cent to help the farmers.

He also demanded that electricity bills/domestic and commercial and tubewell for entire period should be waived.

Atul Anjaan said that PM Kisan payment be raised to at least Rs 18000 per year.

Talking about poor labourers, CPI national secretary said that each family be given Rs 10,000 per month for at least six months for the loss of livelihood and tide over the corona crisis.

Political commentator Dr Ramesh Dixit said the way BJP and all members of the Sangh Parivar were mobilising support in the name of religion and were making inroads in support base of SP and BSP it would be difficult to combat BJP in 2022 unless division of opposition votes was checked. At least Congress and SP with support of left and other like-minded smaller parties should join hands Otherwise, it would be very difficult to stop BJP in UP, Dr Ramesh Dixit opined. (IPA Service)
