No leader present at the 11, Ashok Road likes to talk about the incident that came to light when one of the party functionaries opened the locker and found the money was missing. The matter was immediately reported to the party president Rajnath Singh, who failed to decide whether they should call in the police to probe the theft or not.
Before the party headquarters was closed for Christmas vacation, a sum of 2.6 crore was said to be deposited in the locker in the office of the party treasurer. The BJP leaders are hesitant to call in police for they have to answer the question as to from where the money had come.
BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad tried to skip the issue saying he has no comment to make on the incident.
Of late, BJP has been facing damages to its prestige. Despite several attempts the party has not been able to overcome it.
BJP headquarters is well known for such infamous incidents. Only few years back the then party president Bangaru Laxman was shown taking rupees one lakh as bribe. People are, naturally pointing fingers on the sourse of the stolen money and suspect that the money must have been ill gotten and hense the BJP leadeships are avoiding any FIR.
Interestingly, no BJP leader is willing to sit in the office till the dust is settled. The leaders of the warring groups in a one-upmanship bid are pointing needle of suspicion at each other.
However, according to party sources the Leader of Opposition L K Advani and the party president Rajnath Singh have taken serious note of the incident.#
