The dreams of new India of Dr Ambedkar can be summarised in one sentence — the annihilation of caste – annihilation of Manuvad and a society based on Manuvad and building a society ensuring liberty, equality and fraternity and justice for all.

In the year 1992 on December 6, the Babri Mosque was demolished by a mob called karsevaks, ideologically influenced and guided by Hindutva forces. In fact, RSS was formed in 1925 for the sole purpose of providing ideological base for Hindutva. It is an ideology firmly based on sanatan dharma and Manuvad. RSS had no role in the freedom struggle of our country. Its focus was and is to establish Hindutva Sanatani Manuvadi society, after British and other colonisers left our country.

With Babri Masjid demolition started the much bigger campaign to demolish the core of Constitution of India, Secular India, Nehruvian economic and foreign policies, public sector, the rights of working class, subjugating the rural poor, farming community to benefit corporate and big business houses and to suppress any kind of resistance to this.

The farmers across the country are agitating and converging to the national capital opposing the farm laws by adopting constitutional methods. The farm bills were passed in Parliament without consulting farmers and other stake holders and by dispensing with the constitutional provision of submitting them to actual vote in the Rajya Sabha. And now when protests were launched by farmers on the Constitution Day and they started marching to Delhi, the police in BJP- ruled states put barricades covered with barbed wire on road, dug stenches to create impediments on their movement, fired tear gas shells at them and unleashed repressive measures by arresting many of the leaders representing the struggling farmers. While the farmers are adopting constitutional method to protest, the BJP leadership is adopting unconstitutional method and unleashing grammar of anarchy to stop their march and struggle.

The state violence continues against agitating farmers and working people, targeting of Muslims and lynching many of them in the name of beef and their faiths. Love Jihad is manufactured to target Muslim men and inter-faith couples and now draconian laws have been framed in Uttar Pradesh and other BJP states are contemplating to do so. All such calculated hostility against Muslims reminds us the words of Ambedkar, who had cautioned in the Constituent Assembly on December 17, 1946 that a war was being waged on Muslims.

It is rather very agonising to note that teachers, who taught in their class rooms that Ambedkar burnt Manusmriti are now being slapped with serious charges in BJP-ruled states on the ground that they offended Hindu religion. It is yet another regressive example of trampling upon the vision of Ambedkar by BJP, RSS and their outfits.

There is alarming multiplication of violence against Dalits during Modi regime. The brutal rape and murder of a Dalit girl in Hathras is a grim and sinister manifestation of the spread of violence and hatred embodied in Hindutva, which the BJP and RSS want to take forward for implementing the idea of Hindu Rashtra. Ambedkar had cautioned against such an idea and warned that it would result in calamity.

What is required is to uphold Ambedkar’s vision with redoubled vigour to defeat such regressive forces and ideas. Cultivation of constitutional morality which Ambedkar stressed for India to uphold liberty, equality and fraternity is at stake.

The defeat of forces representing Hindutva would be a victory for the Constitution and constitutional morality. The defeat of forces representing Hindutva would constitute a victory for Ambedkar and his vision. (IPA Service)
