A statement has been issued by an International Monetary Fund (IMF) spokesperson in this regard.

The statement read:

“The Management and staff of the International Monetary Fund and the Central Bank of the Republic of Haiti discussed a proposal prepared by the Haitian authorities to maintain financial stability and restart private sector credit.

“This proposal will be critical to allowing the private sector to fully play its role in rebuilding the economy and providing jobs, in the context of the broader reconstruction and economic recovery. In this regard, the IMF welcomes the authorities' proposal to establish a partial credit guarantee fund, and will be assisting the central bank in the design of such a scheme.”
