Talking to IPA, Atul Anjaan who is a leading figure in the present farmers movement in the country said that left parties were busy in identifying the assembly seats according to their presence and strength. Both the CPI and the CPI-M leaderships have assessed the ground situation in the state in the wake of utter failure of the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in combating the pandemic and dealing with the law and order situation.

The CPI secretary said that unlocking of lockdown will provide more time to left parties to interact and make assessment regarding assembly seats. The party, he underlined, is aware of the significance of this assembly poll in the context of the present national politics and accordingly, steps would be taken to ensure maximum mobilization of secular forces against the BJP.

CPI national secretary said that left parties had presence all over state and at a time when many political parties would be contesting the elections, the left parties could influence results in 70 to 100 assembly seats in UP.

Atul Anjaan said that forthcoming meet on June 25 would provide opportunity to left parties to exchange notes, share views and discuss political scenario including alliances. According to him, the recent panchayat polls exposed poor performance of the BJP and the disenchantment of the people with the Yogi Government. Further, the poll results reflected the anger of the farmers against the BJP.

CPI leader claimed that major opposition parties had only symbolic presence and support to farmers agitation while left parties actively participated in farmers agitation which would play active role in forthcoming assembly polls.

When asked about any possibility of left parties joining Samajwadi Party alliance, Atul Anjaan said so far there was no discussion in CPI or CPM and there was no feelers from Former CM Akhilesh Yadav or his party.

It would be worth mentioning that Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has already entered into alliance with RLD and Mahan Dal and is negotiating with Chandra Shekhar Ravan of Bheem Party and other smaller parties and caste groups to make rainbow coalition of various backward castes.

It was during Krantikari Morcha days the left parties were actively with Mulayam Singh Yadav and were part of movement against communalism which helped Mulayam to capture power in 1989 after replacing Congress.

Now it is yet to be seen whether Akhilesh Yadav takes initiative to accommodate left parties in his alliance to take on CM Yogi Adityanath and BJP to recapture power. (IPA Service)
