The corona pandemic had played havoc in Europe and cold regions of America since January but the Prime Minister was engaged in building his international image through travel to various parts of the world. The Bhakta Mandal (his fan club) with the prompting from the insider in the PMO did claim his far sight in imposing the closure on all activities as the most wise and timely decision as 184 suspected infection were reported at the time of the announcement. He saved the people with his wise decision. They also support that at no stage the number of infections swelled above mark of half a million cases with 99 per cent recoveries. They also indicate fatality rate was minuscule and overwhelming fatalities were of old above age of 63 years suffering from other fatal debilities., Their statistical argument may appear to be correct but even they cannot justify asking people to remain inside their homes.
If he were so concerned about health and safety of masses why did he allow 10 million to walk in groups of families to trek on feet for two thousand kilometers through several states to reach their home villages in East or why not prevent the unsafe bus service for trekking poor? The Uttar Pradesh chief minister claimed his response in providing free bus service to millions trekking on feet through his state was his humanitarian action. Nevertheless he had officially defied the central order banning all transportation services as an essential part of the lock down. Yogi generosity essentially proved that the lock down imposed was not justified. His argument was substantiated by evidence that none of walkers were affected by virus though they had not observed the norms insisted upon for strict observance. It leads to suspect that the lock down was a political move to show the people were with him through the thick and thin of the life experience. Yogi was attempting to prove the lock down was not a health measure.
Pandemic caused no impact in his state suddenly discovered the pandemic affected every village in his state. The pandemic had spread rapidly in 30 days and in two months after the Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat publicly castigated the Prime Minister and his team for failure to deal with the corona pandemic, Yogi took his bag and bedding to the NaMo camp. His surrender to the NaMo camp was not in private but advertised through a full page advertisement.
The law and order mechanism was catching those not observing the prohibitory dictates and punishing the defaulters, people were assembling in large numbers without wearing masks or maintaining social distances in election rallies of the Prime Minister and the home minister in five states. Only after the sarcastic intervention by the judiciary on pointing out of the violation by the Election Commission machinery that both abandoned their campaign.
The schools remained closed for eighteen months depriving 37.4 million school kids the long period of their overall growth. 25.6 million Of students were denied even education at home through net works as their parents could not provide them facilities. The wide disparity in socio economic conditions thus stood exposed even to kids. Can it be counted as great achievement?
Nearly 1300 million residents were locked in their homes and 70 million were loaded with extra work to maintain services. It included personnel of police forces to regulate life and catch defaulters of the lock down conditions. The consequences of locking up citizens like cowards were to the fore soon after the intrusion into the Indian side in Ladakh by Chinese troops in October 2020. The pro BJP were braying for actions to teach a lesson to China but the Prime Minister knew with the nation locked up in homes like prisoners to avoid the corona infection, any military action was not possible. Two French fighters were not enough to terrorize China in submission even if their fighting capacity was considered to be excellent China had thousand fighters and readiness to sacrifice lives like a dispersible commodity... He continued to make prolonged efforts to keep his nose up and find amicable solution through talks across the table.
In the lock down era 120 million lost their employment ad 40 million lost their daily bread earning as restrictions on all economic activities forced the small, medium and large sized production units. Other 40 millions who depended on public transportation had to remain in their home as no passengers needed them. Imagine conditions of cycle rickshaw pullers and cobblers on road sides earning their daily bread forced to abandon their daily earnings. Consequent impact it caused to the economies of daily food sellers to them.
More tragic for Indians was the fear psychosis of the opposition. They were more nervous and dejected to make distinction in approach adopted and the reality demanded. Nearly 200 million Indians had lost their capacity to earn with the dignity bread to meet hunger of their families. They were compelled to feed their hunger through charity of the government and its free food supply. Till today the statistics of the total food distributed or numbers that benefitted are not revealed. May be the details were not revealed because of the forced reversal of the electoral promise of no charity in his regime by NaMo in the 2014 election campaign. The opposition could not present the issue to point out the abject failure. All they could find as an issue was the spying by government. The pitiable plight of majority of Indians for 650 days could not be converted but spying was played up. This proved the insolvency of the opposition that provided solvency to NaMo.
THE DIFFICULT PERIOD OF DREAD
Vijay Sanghvi - 2021-08-20 08:40
Indians have had to undergo the most harrowing experience for 18 months under dread of certain death due to the corona pandemic. They were forced to live in their closed home for the period to ensure India is safe. It was the most illogical advice as cowards cannot ensure of their home land. People have to come out, with or without the approval of the ruling to come out to face the enemy ant the pandemic was an aggression. Instead the Prime Minister imposed a lock down to suspend social activities, economic operations and lock all places of worship... Schools were closed down.
