NITTTR is an institute known for providing technical teachers training. The Ministry of Human Resources Development of the Government of India established it in 1966 with the aim of improving the quality of technical education in India. It organizes workshop and other programmes for the technical teachers for small as well long durations. It also develops courses for technical Institutes and Colleges. It helps educational institutions to draw their course of development and expansion and provides expert assistance for their policy formulations.
Dr Vijay Kumar Aggarwal, the Director of the Insititute says, “ With the increase in the Multi National Companies in India, the demand for skilled managers has gone up. The importance of management has also increased. To get better placement, a technology student needs managerial capability as well. That is why there is rush for management education among the technical hands. This is the reason why we want a management course in our technical institution. We believe that management is also a technique and thus the part of technology.â€
The Institute has a rich library, enough class rooms and other infrastructure needed for a Management Institute. It already has 7 teachers of Management in its faculty. There is no need for any expansion in infrastructure for the management course. Dr Aggarwal says that there will be no scarcity of teachers. The Institute will take the services of retired Management teachers if the need arises.
Says Public Relations Officer Pramod Purohit: “We already have contacts with many business and industrial house. So we will not have problems in placing our students with them. We will not compromise with quality and the course will be of international standards. The Institute has already prepared designs of study for other educational institutes. We will take the service of experts and prepare the best possible design of study for our Institute.â€
Dr Aggarwal says hundreds of managerial posts are vacant in many domestic and foreign companies. There is dearth of qualified and competent managers.. There are many management institutes, but most of them do not have proper training and education facilities. “They are not producing managers of required calibre. This is the reason why there are thousands of unemployed MBAs in the country, while there are a lot of vacancies, which are yet to be filled,†adds Dr. Aggarwal. .
The Director says that, to start with, there will be 60 seats for the Management Course. The number will be raised subsequently. The Institute is trying to affiliate the MBA course with a National University; if that is not possible, the course may get affiliation of a University of the State itself. Later on the Institute will try to get the status of a Deemed University. .
The Institute aims at using Common Admission Test (CAT) for the admission of students. That may take some time. Meanwhile, the Institute will conduct its own entrance test to select students for the MBA course. (IPA)
