Congress has given call for huge mobilization of party workers and supporters at Ambedkarnagar on April 14 when AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will flag off Congress Yatra.

Significantly enough, this yatra is being taken out from Ambedkarnagar and will pass through almost all the important districts and assembly segments and would culminate on May 31 as part of first phase.

According to Congress leaders, the second phase of the yatra would commence after the monsoon and culminate in a big rally at Allahabad on November 10 to be addressed by AICC President Mrs Sonia Gandhi.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh who is in charge of the UP affairs told newsmen that yatra was being organized to tell the people about 125 years of Congress Party as well as achievements of the UPA government.

Mr Singh further said the yatra would also expose chief minister Mayawati who had become “daulat ki beti” from “dalit ki beti”. He disclosed that party was collecting all details about properties and wealth accumulated by chief minister Mayawati ever since she came to politics.

Congress would also make serious efforts to tell the people about anti-people policies of Mayawati and large scale corruption and deterioration in law and order in the state.

Congress would like to lead it had when it won 22 Lok Sabha seats in Lok Sabha from UP and expand it to assembly segments to capture power in next assembly polls to accomplish Mission 2012 of Rahul Gandhi.

It would be worth mentioning here that Mr Rahul Gandhi had made inroads in dalits through his regular visit to dalit basties and sharing meal with them and spending nights there. Now Rahul Gandhi is utilizing Ambedkar Jayanti to launch Congress Yatra programme that too from Ambedkarnagar.

UPCC has taken up the challenge to mobilize party workers for Ambedkarnagar progamme knowing fully well that Mayawati government would try it level best to scuttle the function. Even the permission to allow Rahul Gandhi to address the party workers at Ambedkarnagar, that too near airport, was given under pressure.

UPCC President Rita Bahuguna Joshi has taken up the Ambedkar Jayanti function as big challenge and has asked party leaders including MPs and MLAs to mobilize workers for the meeting to be addressed by Rahul Gandhi at Ambedkarnagar.

On the other hand, Mayawati government is mobilising all resources to to have good show at Ambedkarnagar on the same day. BSP sources hinted that Chief minister Mayawati may also address the party meeting at Ambedkarnagar on the same day.

BSP supremo Mayawati had on march 15 maharally given clear hint that she was returning to her dalit agenda.

Mayawati in her two-hour address to party workers drawn from all over the country made it clear that Mr. Satish Chandra Mishra who was Brahmin face of the party and enjoyed number two position in the party would look after only cases pending against Mayawati and the party in different courts.

Chief Minister Mayawati in emotive tone reassured her party workers that she would remain committed to uphold the dignity and honour of her dalit 'samaj' throughout her life. She made it clear that there would be no compromise on dalit issues.

At the same time she asked her core dalit voters to retain power in the state in next assembly elections and asked to prepare them to capture power at the centre.

Mayawati spent time and energy to criticise Congress Party leaders and termed them as anti-dalit and anti-Ambedkar.

Chief minister alleged that Congress party was trying to finish Bahujan Samaj Party and that is why cases of disproportionate assets and Taj heritage corridor case were revived against her.

Apprehending Rahul Gandhi weaning away her traditional voters, Mayawati termed young Gandhi's visit to Harijan basti and sharing meal and spending nights as nothing but 'tamasha'.

BSP supremo gave the call to party to organise demonstrations all over the state on Ambedkar Jayanti to protest against shortcomings in Women Reservation bill being initiated by Congress with the help of BJP and left parties.

According to political observers, with SP and BJP do not figuring much in the eyes of the public, it would be interesting to follow ongoing confrontation between Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party. (IPA)
