During last few years, former Chief Minister Mayawati was seen advising Narendra Modi and Yogi governments on the issue of governance. It was observed that Mayawati was more critical of Congress and Samajwadi Party than BJP. It may be mentioned that her party had contested elections in alliance with Congress as well as Samajwadi Party. But after the elections, Mayawati terminated alliance on her own while putting blame on other parties.
It would be worth mentioning here that BSP entered into alliance with arch rival Samajwadi Party in 2019 Lok Sabha polls and increased the tally of members from nil to 10. But still, Mayawati terminated alliance with the SP and started wooing the BJP. The impression has gone round that BSP was helping BJP Mayawati was not invited to crucial meeting of opposition parties at Patna on June 23.
In order to demonstrate her loyalty to BJP, Mayawati launched attack on opposition parties by saying that the exercise was meaningless as there was no agenda for Bahujansamaj which was facing economic and social hardship. She further said that there was no place for discussion about the issues of ordinary people.
Reacting to attack from Mayawati, the opposition leaders said that Mayawati was not invited to Patna conclave since there was perception that her party would not fight against BJP. Recent Civic polls in UP also witnessed decline of BSP in cities. Her party miserably failed in mayoral elections despite having played aggressive muslim card fielding 11 minority community candidates out of total 17.It was observed that muslim votes were divided to Samajwadi Party, BSP, AIMIM of Owaisi and Congress. Earlier in 2022 assembly polls BSP witnessed worst ever performance with 13 percent vote share and single seat.
Meanwhile Mayawati is busy in holding series of meetings of party leaders, coordinators and office-bearers to get the support of dalits, backwards and Muslims. During last few months Mayawati has given important positions to backwards and Muslims. She is wooing Muslims with a message that if they combined with her Bahujansamaj, they could grab power.
Knowing that majority of upper caste would be with BJP in the name of Hindutva and Ram temple Mayawati is not talking about them. So much so Mr Satish Mishra who at one time enjoyed number two position and was Brahmin face of the party, does not enjoy importance within the party. Now it is to be seen as to how Mayawati without any alliance and with the perception of having tactic understanding with BJP performs in Lok Sabha polls. (IPA Service)
