And while Nuh, which cannot say ‘No’ to threats of violence, will be holding a G20 event, New Delhi, the seat of India’s power, will be out of bounds for Indian citizens from September 7-10 because of the G20 Summit. Of all the gall. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already apologized for the insult to the Delhi citizen who has been told to sit out the G20 Summit stuck to his home and idiot box. This, when an order to cleanse all dog life from the restricted area cordoned off for the G20 Summit was rescinded. For human beings, it’s a dog’s life’ with no rights.

The Modi regime is behaving like it’s running a scared police state; ashamed of its own people, betraying a complete lack of confidence in running the country while keeping life normal. Are Delhi’s residents terrorists? Which democratic country turns its capital city into an armed fortress, out of bounds for citizens because foreigners would be in the city? Did Saudi Arabia and Turkey take the right decision when they boycotted the G20 event in Srinagar earlier in the year?

At the time, the Modi government questioned the decision, asserting that Kashmir had once again become paradise on earth after the abrogation of Article 370 and that there was no call for skipping the G20 event. In a few days, US President Joe Biden and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau will return to the US and Canada with the impression that Delhi residents cannot be trusted with their own lives forget that of foreign heads of state.

In normal countries ordinary citizens are not barred from parts of a city because of some mega event at which foreign VVIPs will be present. It’s cruel to people condemned to the periphery. The Modi government will present to foreign dignitaries a sham of a sanitized ‘India’. It’s an insult to the foreign dignitary’s intelligence. The impression of India they will carry home won’t be worth remembering.

Without Delhi’s human capital on display, the real India will be missing, the essence of India. Only the cut and dried copy-paste tableaux of a make-believe India that does not exist. “Who” does the Modi government want to fool – the foreign dignitary or the Delhi citizen? Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s abject apology does not count for zilch. Which parent will hide his child because he’s ashamed of the harelip?

A piece of advice for the Modi regime: Don’t let the Delhi Traffic Police’s advisory for the G20 summit fall into foreign hands. The restrictions will lay bare the cover-up to hide the “ugly”. And quite a few of the foreigners may even take the first flight home though they’ll find most flights have been cancelled.

Yeah, India is on the moon, but India remains a Third World country even if India has grown to fifth largest world economy. The Government of India is bent on presenting a wrong picture of India. The Modi government has no business transferring its fears and lack of confidence in itself on to the people of India. What is Prime Minister Narendra Modi afraid of? India, warts and all, is still worth a look.

Besides, the likes of Biden and Trudeau are not strangers to India. Heads of state are a frequent presence in India. One or the other is always on an official visit. Along with spouse. And it is not just Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Council of Ministers who are good looking, presentable. Also, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Why is PM Modi bent on depriving presidents and prime ministers a look at the real India?

Let the people be, unless the Modi regime has forgotten India is a living democracy. Unless the Modi regime admits India is underdeveloped with the Modi government fooling the world with talk of grandeur. The G20 Sherpa event to be held in Nuh is an act of false bravado. If portions of the nation's capital have to be kept out of bounds for Indian citizens, what is the logic behind holding a G20 Sherpa event in violence hit ‘Nuh’? For India's event manager Prime Minister, only 'I, Me, Myself' matters, the people can watch like they did the moon landing. (IPA Service)
