The policy envisages establishment of quality focused multimodal public transport systems that are well integrated, providing seamless travel across modes. As Urban Transport is primarily a state subject, Government of India has issued advisory to all State Governments for ensuring that systems are well integrated and offer a seamless system to the users. Government of India is also taking steps for introducing common mobility card for intermodal integration.

New Delhi: The Government intends to bring existing suburban rail system in urban centers into multimodal network as envisaged in the National Urban Transport Policy 2006.
