The Working Group on Drinking Water under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary, Drinking Water would consist of representatives from Planning Commission, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, Health, Women and Child Development, Education along with members of Technical Experts Groups, Technical Advisers from Department of Drinking Water Supply, Representative of WSP-SA, UNICEF, World Bank, Representative from four Key Resource Centres including IIT Kanpur, NGRI, NRSC, NEERI, IIPA along with Secretaries in-charge of Rural Drinking Water of Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Mizoram.

The Working Group on Sanitation under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary, Sanitation would comprise of the representatives from Planning Commission, Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of HUPA, Deptt. of Rural Development , Education, Health, WCD, Agriculture along with Secretaries in-charge of Sanitation of Haryana, Maharastra, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Sikkim. Besides the Technical Advisers from the Department, UNICEF, WSP-SA, Plan International, Water Aid, Representatives from four Key Resource Centres along with the National Scheme Sanctioning Committee members would be assisting the Working Group.

The Working Groups would deliberate upon the proposed strategy in the four regional consultations with States to be held in June, July, August and September, 2010 in collaboration with National Institute of Rural Development. Regional consultation meetings would be held in Chandigarh in June 2010 for Northern States, in July in Mysore for Southern States, in August in Ahmedabad for Western States and in September in Guwahati for Eastern and North-eastern States. The final meeting would be held in Hyderabad in October, 2010.It is expected that the deliberations would facilitate the planning process in rural drinking water supply and sanitation.
