Hasina’s fate reminds how people learn of their true worth to the world only after their fall, and Shaikh Hasina is the throes of the Hindi saying, ‘Aasman Se Ghira, Khajoor Ke Payd Pa Atka!’ The so-called ‘student-protestors’ of her country gave her an ultimatum and Hasina took off with only the stitch of a couple of clothes on her back!

Sheikh Hasina should thank Bangladesh Army Chief Waker-Uz-Zaman, whose wife is Hasina’s cousin, for saving her life. Now, there are reports that if elections are announced in Bangladesh, Shaikh Hasina will be in Dhaka, pronto. This bit of bravery was revealed by Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who has been all over Indian TV news channels, declaring that his mother is no coward like the Pak Army of 1971 was.

Hasina going back to Dhaka is a bit of a stretch. A couple of reports said the interim government of Bangladesh wants India to stop giving sanctuary to Sheikh Hasina and release her into Bangladeshi custody. The protestors/students also want Hasina to return to face the consequences of her “15-year dictatorship”. Frankly speaking, Sheikh Hasina wouldn’t look good hanging from the rafter of a railway over-bridge.

For Hasina Wazed, proclaimed offender Mehul Choksi would be the best person to get in touch with. The Caribbean is full of islands for fugitives and though Hasina’s rival Khalida Zia wouldn’t want Hasina to sun herself on a Jamaican beach, she needs sanctuary. Hasina is blamed for the violence she left in her wake. The Hindu minority is taking most of the hits. The violence is increasing and the Army is busy giving out statements.

Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus, the man chosen to guide Bangladesh out of Hasina’s mess, doesn’t like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina. Yunus is an American plant in the Bangladesh delta. The way things pan out in such countries, which the US understands well, Yunus might end up running Bangladesh for years.

Sheikh Hasina, who is 76, will have to get comfortable in her new clothes. People who want to get into the head of Hasina, know what she is up to. They want Hasina to do “some introspection”. They blame Hasina for thugs going berserk on Bangladesh streets when Hasina ruled the country for 15 years. These are the same people who blame Modi for letting loose “RSS thugs”. Modi also had to struggle for visas when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat. And Sheikh Hasina was called a dictator when she was Prime Minister. The assessment is, dictators cannot “introspect” and will not “repent”.

Hasina-haters outside Bangladesh are happy her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s statues were brought down and demolished, forgetting that Mujibur Rahman met the same fate as the Bamiyan Buddhas. Were his statues punished for breaking Pakistan into two? Believe it or not, Pakistan is the good guy in the Bangladesh of today, for “liberating Bangladesh” from the chokehold of a dictator propped up by India!

All this when it is getting clearer by the day that Bangladesh is spiralling out of control and will, if things go like they are going, be no country for minorities, especially the Hindus, who have been forced to fight back wherever they can. Apparently, there are enclaves with majority Hindus and they are fighting to save their lives. Now "ousting" has become the new playbook. After Sheikh Hasina, it's the turn of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh to get an ultimatum to quit and leave…It is pure simple mobocracy. Don't be surprised if Yunus doesn't get an ultimatum to quit and leave if the time comes. Saturday, CJB Obaidul Hassan offered to "resign in principle". CJB Hassan was a loyalist to Sheikh Hasina.
