The 'Miya Muslims' reportedly occupy half the land mass of Assam. Entire villages and districts have become ‘Miya Muslim bhoomi’ over years of Congress-rule, says the controversial Assam Chief Minister, who is in his element when he is preaching to the ‘Miya Muslim’, advising them to lead crime-free lives.
A comparison between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is futile as both are “Hindu-first” and “CM-second”, but while Yogi Adityanath limits himself to bulldozing homes and bakeries as punishment for crimes committed in UP, Himanta Biswa Sarma has been actively pursuing the RSS dream of controlling the lifestyles of Muslims.
On August 29, Sarma said he wouldn't allow Assam to become "Miyabhoomi". Miya Muslims speak Bengali and they had clawed their way to dominance during friendly Congress rule, such that Assam is now inundated with alleged Bangladeshi transplants. In many districts of Assam, the demography has changed drastically and reflects the "takeover of Assam" by Bengali-speaking Muslims.
Indigenous Assamese, which includes Assam's ethnic tribes and ethnic Assamese Muslims, love Himanta Biswa Sarma's tough-talk. "I will not allow Assam to turn into Miyabhoomi" and "I'm Chief Minister of only some" are quintessential Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Assam Chief Minister has been targeting “Miya Muslim madrasas”, and punishing them with the bulldozer for "crimes against women."
Biswa Sarma's dog-whistles are working. Assam's indigenous people are lining up behind him and among them are the ethnic Assamese Muslims. At the same time, Himanta Biswa Sarma is making sure the 'Miya Muslim' pays for alleged crimes against women, and little girls, many of whom are married off to rich old men at a very young age.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is bringing laws targeting crimes against women, including child marriage. Strangely enough, when fighting back, the so-called 'Miya Muslim' comes out as diehard advocates of child marriage. There is already a law against child marriage, they say, but it is the Qazi who registers marriages of 'Miya Muslims'. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's new law hits hard at the roots of child marriage.
Has Himanta Biswa Sarma set the cat amongst the pigeons? What alarms the so-called 'Miya Muslims' most is the allegation that they are infiltrators from Bangladesh and should be “sent back” to Bangladesh. Sarma says he is fully committed to “Assam for Assamese”, and making Assam “Miya Muslim-free.”
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is quite content remaining Chief Minister of Assam. He is the 15th Chief Minister of Assam and a 20-year Congress veteran before he joined the BJP after Rahul Gandhi allegedly insulted him by offering him dog-eaten biscuits when Sarma was at Rahul’s residence to “discuss Assam affairs.”
Now, with no dog in the kennel, Assam's opposition is accusing Sarma of exploiting "religious cleavages.” The Assam Chief Minister isn't bothered about the allegations, though. Sarma fancies him as the alpha-warrior addressing the "ethnic and linguistic anxieties" plaguing current day Assam.
Among other Sangh-Parivar agendas that Sarma has been working on included the passage of the Assam Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Act, insisting that “cow is our mother, and its slaughter must stop.” Sarma also asked for the reverification of the NRC and like Yogi Adityanath has often resorted to bulldozer action to evict “illegal encroachers.” Himanta Biswa Sarma talks of “threats to Hindus in Assam” to defend the demolition of madrasas and their alleged terror links.
LoP Rahul Gandhi shares no happy vibes with Himanta Biswa Sarma. Rahul Gandhi was the one who had rejected Himanta Biswa Sarma's application for the Chief Minister's post. Biswa Sarma, like the elephant of Assam, has a long memory and doesn't forget slights. Even as he quit the Congress, Sarma had complained to Sonia Gandhi about her son's arrogance. "He was “feeding biscuits” to his dog Pidi “while we wanted to discuss Assam’s issues,” Biswa Sarma wrote to Sonia Gandhi.
With child marriage out of the way, Sarma is looking forward to banning polygamy. Sarma says marrying four wives is three too many. The Assam Assembly passed the Assam Repealing Bill, 2024 to repeal a 1935 Act and then the Assam Compulsory Registration of Muslim Marriages and Divorces Bill, 2024. The
The Congress-led Opposition says "he could start a riot." The opposition leaders have lodged a police complaint against the Chief Minister, alleging that there is a criminal conspiracy to "create unrest in Assam." Bottom-line: Himanta Biswa Sarma is out to obliterate the 'Miya Muslim' from Assam. Wild! (IPA Service)
ASSAM CM HIMANTA BISWA SARMA TAKES CONTROL OF MUSLIM MARRIAGES
THE POWERFUL BJP LEADER IS INCREASINGLY TARGETING THE MINORITY COMMUNITY

Among all Chief Ministers, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is having the most fun. He does what he feels like and Sarma struck a rich vein of support from Assam's indigenous people when he insisted that he was "CM only of some (people)". The "some" does not include "Miya Muslim", allegedly Bangladeshi infiltrators. But Sarma is the Chief Minister of indigenous Assamese Muslims.
