The body language of Congress and Samajwadi Party leaders and their warmth on the day when Congress and SP candidates filed their nominations conveyed to political pundits that bonhomie between two parties would continue for future as well.

It would be worth mentioning here that Samajwadi Party is desperate to join UPA should TMC leader Mamata Banerjee decides to embarrass Congress after her victory in local bodies polls in West Bengal.

In the process Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav also met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

After Amar Singh left the party, Samajwadi Party is keener to have better understanding with Congress and wants to join UPA so that Mulayam Singh Yadav and other important leaders should get ministerial berths.

There is realisation in Samajwadi Party that the party had lost Muslims due to alliance with Kalyan Singh in last Lok Sabha polls and Yadavs and other backwards were also not so happy with the situation.

Significantly, SP leaders were also perturbed by the fact that Muslims were returning to Congress and ruling BSP Chief Minister Mayawati repeatedly made it clear that BSP perceived Congress as main threat for 2012 and made no mention about SP or BJP.

Samajwadi Party national spokesman Mohan Singh recently said in Lucknow that to fight against BSP there was need for joint fight.

Mohan Singh made it clear that it would be difficult for all secular parties to fight BSP if they failed to unite. He stressed the need for all political parties to take initiative in this direction.

Making the party's strategy clear Mohan Singh said his party had been giving support to UPA to fight communal forces and joint strategy in UP could be rewarding.

However, Congress leaders are not talking openly about this development. They maintain that people should not read too much in SP's support to Congress in Rajya Sabha polls.

State leaders of Congress are not in a position to say openly about the possibility of alliance between SP in view of Rahul Gandhi's announcement made in Mirjapur recently that Congress will fight 2012 UP assembly polls on its own.

All the more interesting is support from RLD of Ajit Singh who has proved to be hard bargainer in Indian politics .UPA government had named Amaushi airport at Lucknow after late Prime Minister Charan Singh before last Lok Sabha polls to woo Ajit Singh who ultimately joined hands with BJP.

The unconditional support of RLD for Congress in Rajya Sabha and Vidhan Parishad polls with the possibility of merger with Congress is all set for new political situation in western part of UP where Jat dominates.

According to informed sources, former Union Minister and Jat community leader Ajit Singh is negotiating with UPA leadership for Bharat Ratna honour for his father late Prime Minister Charan Singh as precondition before official merger between the two parties.

Ajit Singh also wants a suitable ministry for himself and also wants important position for his son Jayant Choudhry who is MP in Lok Sabha from Mathura.

According to political sources, Ajit Singh wants that his son should be given important position in party organisation at national level and become important member of Rahul Gandhi's young team and projected as a young Jat leader.

With Congress already showing signs of improving its position with every passing day, the possible merger with RLD and some understanding with Samajwadi Party will change the political scenario of UP. (IPA)
