General public in Uttar Pradesh is not supporting the call given by SP and BSP for state wide agitation against price rise.

The people of the state are aware of the fact that both Samajwadi Party and BSP have supported UPA government in Parliament when Left and BJP had brought no-confidence motion against the government on April 27, this year.

Although Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav had announced that he would support Left parties on the issue of no-confidence motion but at the eleventh hour his party supported UPA government.

The fact remains that while Mulayam Singh Yadav and Samajwadi Party supported UPA government on the floor of the House, his son Akhilesh Yadav who is also state president of the party led demonstration against price rise in Lucknow and several buses were put on fire by the SP workers.

At that time too, general public was not supporting agitation of SP workers as party was supporting UPA government on the floor of the House.

Now once again Samajwadi Party leader Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav announced in Lucknow that his party would be part of Bharat Bandh call given by the Left parties and other secular parties on July 5.

When asked as why his party was not withdrawing support from UPA government on the issue of price rise, Prof. Yadav said that his party continued to support central government because his party was against forcing nation for mid-term poll within a year.

Prof. Yadav explained that if withdrawal of support forced the fall of UPA government, then President would invite main opposition party BJP to form the government. SP leader said his party would never want BJP to form the government in the country — that is why his party would continue to support UPA Government in the Parliament.

SP leader said that Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav had called the meeting of 160 important leaders in Lucknow and directed that two persons would visit each district and city units to over see the arrangements for country wide Bharat Bandh.

He blamed wrong policies of UPA government for rise in prices of diesel and petrol which would result in large scale inflation hitting aam admi (common man) on whose plank UPA came back to power.

Similar is the plight of ruling Bahujan Samaj Party whose leader and chief minister Mayawati announced state wide agitation by party on July 6 against price rise.

Bahujan Samaj Party too had supported UPA government on the issue of no-confidence motion on April 27 on the issue of price rise.

At that time BSP supremo Mayawati had surprised political commentators by her announcement that she supported UPA to prevent communal forces (read BJP) coming to power.

It was alleged at that time that BSP supported UPA government as her cases of disproportionate assets were pending in Supreme Court following probe by CBI

Chief minister Mayawati called the meeting of senior leaders of her party from all over the country and while addressing them, she said that the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel cooking gas and kerosene by the Congress led UPA government was anti-people.

Mayawati announced that he party would hold state wide agitation including demonstration in all the districts on July 6. She also gave call for country-wide agitation on July 15 to protest against anti-people policies of UPA government. (IPA Service)
