On May 20, the jawans of Binnaguri Cantonment in North Bengal picked up the two cubs who had strayed into their training area after being abandoned by their mother. The cubs, barely a fortnight old, were examined by an army vet. The Range Officer of the local Forest Conservation Department was consulted, who said the cubs were too small to be managed by forest officials. A considered view was taken to leave them in the area, frequented by their mother. They were,
thus, left at the edge of the forest, fed and kept under surveillance, till their mother took them away.
The forest officials were highly appreciative of the efforts of the Army and thanked the troops for their sensitivity shown towards conservation of wildlife.
