Congress, Samajwadi party and Bahujan Samaj Party fighting for Muslim votes feel threatened by sudden emergence of Peace Party of India (PPI) and Ulema Council .As these two political parties are not enough former MP Iliyas Azmai announced that he too would form a political party.
Almost thee years back, Dr Ayub, prominent surgeon of Barhalganj in eastern UP formed Peace Party of India and damaged the chances of Congress and other secular parties in last Lok Sabha polls and by-elections for assembly in the state. The recent announcement of Dr Ayub that his party would contest 350 out of total 403 assembly seats in 2012 assembly elections has shocked all major political parties.
Dr Ayub is openly talking about conditions like fight against corruption, communalism and social justice for Muslims, Dalits and most backwards. In the beginning Dr Ayub had alliance with LJP of Ram Vilas Paswan, Momin Conference, Indian Justice Party of Udit Raj, Bhartiya Samaj Party of Om Prakash Rajbhar and Janwadi Party.
The political parties were surprised when Peace Party candidate that too a Brahmin came second in recently concluded by-election for UP Assembly from Lakhimpur Kheri.
The success of Dr Ayub is evident from the fact he was able to transfer Muslim votes for a Brahmin candidate. Besides Dr Ayub, only Mayawati has the capacity to transfer her dalit votes for any political party candidate in elections. Significantly Saif Naqvi, son of sitting MP of Lakhimpur Kheri Zafar Ali Naqvi, was pushed to fourth position and lost deposit despite campaigning by top leaders of Congress Party.
Earlier also in Dumariaganj assembly by-elections where sitting MP Jagdambika Pal is from Congress Party, Peace Party fielded Brahmin candidate who was third and Congress was pushed to fourth position. Peace Party is capitalizing on the unrest in Muslim community over the issue of growing unemployment and victimization by the Centre and state government. Dr Ayub has been able to give the impression to Muslim community that they should have their own party to resolve their issues. The manner in which Dr Ayub conducted himself before the Muslim gathering was effective. He was able to establish contact with the masses on emotive issues and persuaded them to vote for the party candidate.
With mobilization of resources for Peace Party of India candidates and campaign, it appears there is no death of funds for Dr Ayub. These days former Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh is also patronising Peace Party to make dent in Muslim support of Mulayam Singh Yadav to settle score with ahir leader. Peace Party has so far been able to make its presence felt in eastern part of the state but Dr Ayub announced that he would hold rallies of Muslims in other parts of the state.
Like Peace Party, Uttar Pradesh witnessed yet another Muslim political party by the name of Ulema Council. It would be worth mentioning here that Ulema Council was set up by prominent Ulemas of Azamgarh district after Batala house encounter near Jamia Milia in New Delhi. The Ulema Council also held series of meetings in various parts of state as well as Delhi and fielded candidate in last Lok Sabha polls. Significantly enough, Ulema Council candidate in Lucknow Amresh Mishra could get only few hundred votes. During recently concluded panchayat polls, Peace Party as well as Ulema Council candidates got elected.
As if these two political parties are not enough, former BSP MP Iliyas Azmi has announced to form yet another political party to unite Muslim and pasi (also dalits) community to damage Bahujan Samaj Party. (IPA Service)
