Lt Gen Karwal said that there is a heavy demand from the corporate sector for NCC Cadets. These companies employ the cadets in security and other jobs. He said that many central departments and state Governments have reservation in jobs for NCC Cadets. A number of industries also give preference to NCC āCā certificate holders for various jobs because it is considered that NCC Cadets are more disciplined and punctual, he added. He said that the NCC has almost doubled the number of cadets who get a chance to participate in adventure and sports activities. Now NCC is exploring new avenues to expand the Youth Exchange Programme with foreign countries. He also informed that in August last year NCC Cadets launched a nationwide awareness drive to conserve electricity.
Lt Gen Karwal said that the Annual Republic Day Camp will be inaugurated tomorrow by the Vice President of India Mohd Hamid Ansari. There are 1,950 cadets, both Boys and Girls, hailing from every nook and corner of the country, participating in the month-long camp.

NCC to Raise 50 New Battalions Comprising 2 Lakh Cadets

New Delhi: Fifty new Battalions will be raised in the NCC to accommodate 2 lakh new NCC Cadets. This was stated by the Director General NCC Lt Gen RK Karwal here today. Addressing a news conference coinciding with the NCC Republic Day Camp 2011, General Karwal said that the Government has finally approved the proposal to raise the strength of NCC Cadets from the present 13 lakhs to 15 lakhs. He said the NCC Directorate will raise 01 Group HQ, 10 Army NCC units and 01 Naval and 01 Air units for this purpose. The process of absorbing the cadets will be completed in the next five years.
