At present TPO personnel are poistioned at international airports.

Speaking to mediapersons after taking charge of the Union Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Subodh Kant Sahay said :”India attracts only 0.58% of world tourists. We want to target at least one per cent of the world tourists in our country.”
Describing tourism sector as one of the largest employment-oriented sector, he said that young people who have just passed their high examination will be trained for operators in the tourism chain.

The minister noted that despite the severe impact of global economic crisis domestic toursits across the country recorded a fiqure of 65 crore in 2009. Encouraged by this development, the government would promote different types of tourism like tribal tourism, ethnic tourism, spiritual and religious tourism and development of theme-oriented parks across the country.

The government is also committed to remove regional imbalances through tourism like promoting tourism in the remote north-eastern parts of the country, hilly states and in Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa where there is a great potential.
