There is no doubt that with series of agitations in the state, Samajwadi Party has established that there would be direct fight between SP and BSP while BJP and Congress have been reduced to side players. With the threat to arrest chief minister Mayawati, Samajwadi Party has tried to repeat what BSP supremo had done in 2007 assembly polls.
It would be worth mentioning here that during 2007 assembly polls BSP supremo Mayawati had based her campaign on her promise to voters that her government would send the then chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh to jail for deterioration in law and order and corruption. Although four years have passed since May 2007 assembly polls, chief minister Mayawati has not fulfilled her promise to voters. Similarly Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav who is younger brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Leader of the Opposition in UP Assembly has been repeatedly saying to send Mayawati to jail if his party was voted to power in 2012.
While making serious charge of corruption against Mayawati government, SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav said that as much as Rs 40,000 crores were spent in constructions of parks and statues including her own and other dalit icons. He alleged that there was big loot through commission in these constructions and purchase of stones and other materials.
Shivpal Singh Yadav said that the manner in which sugar mills were sold for song to private sector also exposed the corruption.
SP state president Akhilesh Yadav said the manner in which “Aashtadhatu” metal was being used for construction of statues also speaks for high level corruption as this metal was very expensive as compared to sandstone.
Akhilesh Yadav claimed that huge gates of memorials and parks are made of Aashtadhatu. So much so animals put up at Eco Park in Lucknow were also made of Aashtadhatu which resulted in rise in the cost of the park manifold.
SP leader also alleged that there was huge corruption in tree plantation of 1000 palm trees in Eco Park.
The appointment of 40 OSDs by chief minister Mayawati also came under attack by SP leaders. Akhilesh alleged that each OSD attached with chief minister Mayawati was getting Rs one lakh per month.
SP leaders said they were keeping tracks of all activities of chief minister Mayawati and her government and a high level commission would be appointed to probe all scams if SP was voted to power.
State-wide agitations and street battles by SP workers against Mayawati government and BSP in recent months have forced BJP and Congress to start series of agitations to capitalize on people’s anger for next assembly polls. (IPA)
