Talking to IPA, CPI national secretary Atul Anjan said that the decision to hold agitation against BSP government led by Mayawati was taken at state executive held last month in the presence of national general secretary AB Bardhan and his deputy Sudhakar Reddy.

Anjan said that state executive held discussion on the plight of farmers, non-payment of employment guarantee scheme dues, weavers, beedi workers, local bodies polls, aaganbadi workers and large scale corruption in the administration. CPI national secretary said during last four years, all the democratic institutions in the state were under attack from the government. Mr Anjan said that ever since Mayawati took over there has been no investment in the state and no attempt was made by the government to attract top businessmen of the country as other chief ministers were doing. The conditions created by Mayawati government have forced industries to migrate to Uttarakhand and other states.

He said that chief minister Mayawati had not received any business delegation nor held any discussion with ambassadors of other countries. Talking bout backwardness of the state, CPI leader said education sector was most neglected by Mayawati government. He further said institutions like polytechnic and ITI which used to provide technical training to youths who could get jobs easily, had been neglected by the successive governments.

He said there were two districts having population over 30 lakhs which had no post graduate college which speaks for lack of interest on the part of the government.

Similarly the situation of primary education is also very pathetic as primary teachers, despite good salary, do not go to schools.

Large scale corruption in health sector is evident from two successive murders of CMO ranks officers in family welfare department in last two months, he said.

The condition of primary health centres was very bad as there were no good doctors which resulted in increase in serious problems in women and children.

Anjan said that agriculture sector was also neglected during Mayawati regime as there was no proper system of opening purchase centres for wheat. Fertilisers and seeds of good quality were too not available to farmers.

Even drinking water in the state was big problem as level ground water was going down every month. The issue of arsenic water being consumed in several districts was also raised in UP Assembly, he pointed out.

Large scale corruption in the construction of memorials and parks in the name of dalit icons including her has come to limelight.

CPI national secretary said there was no attempt by Mayawati government to provide facilities in holy cities like Varanasi, Mathura, Ayodhya and Agra to look after the interest of religious tourism.

He charged Mayawati government of deliberately neglecting the problems of lakhs of weavers and their families in the state.

CPI national secretary said that his party would fight against forcible land acquisition by Mayawati government in the interest of big business houses without giving adequate compensation.

Talking about agitation programme, Mr Atul Anjan said series of public meetings, demonstrations and dharnas had been planned in various parts of the state next month. (IPA Service)
