Although Mayawati publicly underplayed threat from Rahul Gandhi but she realizes the potential of Congress leader to make inroads in her vote bank through his style of functioning. That is why she takes young Gandhi very seriously.
Chief Minister Mayawati is aware of the fact how Rahul Gandhi had interacted with dalits, shared meal with them and spent night in dalit basti. He even took a British national with him to dalit village in Amethi and made him spend night in the hut of dalit family.
Chief Minister Mayawati openly blamed Congress led UPA government for its failure to bring bill for amending Land Acquisition Act of 1894. She urged Rahul Gandhi to work on the bringing the bill in Parliament and assured full support from her party in getting it passed.
Mayawati countered the allegation of Rahul Gandhi regarding police brutality in Bhatta Persaul villages in Greater Noida.
Chief Minister Mayawati and her party BSP denied the allegation made by Rahul Gandhi about rape and criminal assault on women. Mayawati and her party even condemned National Commission for Women for having alleged that women were raped and criminally assaulted. BSP demanded that NCW should be disbanded.
Mayawati government also countered Rahul Gandhi on his allegations that several people had been burnt in Bhatta Persaul. The spokesman of the government said that on the basis of report of state Forensic laboratory in Agra where ashes were sent for testing, there was no evidence of bones.
The state government also prepared a note on the issue of compensation given to farmers on land acquired. Chief Minister Mayawati claimed that the agreement reached between the farmers and state government on land compensation rate was best in the country. She convened the meeting of her party MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other senior office bearers and asked them to tell people about the responsibility of Congress in inflation due to recent hike in petrol prices.
She asked her party leaders to inform the public as to how her government had kept cooking gas free from any tax, lowered VAT from diesel from 23 per cent to 17 per cent to give relief to farmers. She also asked them to explain to public that there was no hike in tax on petrol, diesel and kerosene since January 2007.
Chief Minister Mayawati repeatedly claimed that her government had asked for special package of Rs 80,000 crores for removing backwardness of state which was never given. She said she had no idea about special package given to weavers by UPA government.
Mayawati also asked her party leaders to prepare for assembly polls and educate masses on the good work done by her government for different sections of society especially dalits and farmers.
Since the chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe Mr PL Punia is also making serious allegations that dalits were not safe under Mayawati government and there was increase in incidents of atrocities on dalits during last four years, Mayawati asked her party leaders to distribute booklets containing government work for dalits.
It would be worth mentioning here chief minister Mayawati has asked her party leaders to revive bhaichara samiti to interact with different castes. She also asked party leaders and workers to educate masses that UPA government at the centre and Congress Party were responsible for backwardness of the state. (IPA Service)
