Interestingly, SP president put the assembly elections in the perspective of the Lok Sabha elections and asked the party workers to work hard for the assembly elections next year so that the success in the state can be further advanced in the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.He said that SP must get maximum number of seats in Lok Sabha elections from UP so that no government at the centre is possible without the support of the Samajwadi Party.

SP leaders have made it clear that the Party is not having any electoral alliance with any national party and it will focus all its attention on exposing the corrupt practices resorted to by the Mayawati administration as also the deterioration in law and order in the state and lack of developmental programmes. Samajwadi Party also made strong criticism of the UPA-2 Government for inflation and large scale corruption but at the same time mentioned that the SP would always support the Centre’s action to combat communalism.

State SP president Akhilesh Yadav who is leading the campaign in the state against the Mayawati government made a scathing attack against the chief minister for resorting to large scale corruption to the tune of Rs. 5,000 crore in construction of memorials and parks having statues of dalit icons including chief minister Mayawati herself. He also criticized Mayawati for exploitation of farmers by acquiring their land at less prices and selling the same to the big builders at high prices.

Meanwhile the opposition political parties in the state including SP are targeting the Mayawati administration for the murder of a 14 year girl in the police station. Though the Mayawati Government ordered a CBI-CID probe into this ghastly murder, opposition parties pointed out that the UP administration has miserably failed in protecting the security of the women, especially dalit women in the state. Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder saying that the CBI-CID inquiry ordered by the chief minister will serve no purpose, it is meant to cover up the issue.

SP sources say that the law and order in Uttar Pradesh is getting bad to worse and now murders are taking place even in police stations. The Party is expected to intensify its campaign against the Mayawati Government on this issue.
