As a part of this move, the Chief Minister has asked her senior officers of the state government including the departmental heads to prepare the list of tainted persons in their respective departments and take action against them in a time bound manner. She has also decided to visit the districts to review the law and order situation in the state and to fix responsibility for the deterioration in the situation.
Mayawati knows that the opposition parties- Samajwadi Party, Congress and BJP have been continuously focusing on corruption and the deterioration of law and order in the state as the major planks of the election campaign. She has decided not to give any scope to the opposition propaganda and as a part of a deliberate policy, she has announced that no legislator with a tainted record, will be given ticket. This has created a panicky situation among the existing BSP MLAs and there is a big commotion going around. But the Chief Minister is sticking to her policy and on a daily basis, action is being taken against the BSP leaders including the legislators.
Sources say that if the BSP supreme persists with her announcement, at least eighty MLAs of BSP will be denied tickets and that is a very big number considering the fact that earlier in May this year, the Chief Minister assured the sitting BSP MLAs that all of them will be given tickets unless there were serious allegations against them. As a consequence, many of the MLAs who are not sure of their tickets, are looking for other options. The opposition parties are also tapping a few of them taking into account their potential.
The latest to face wrath of the chief minister is Haji Yaqub Qureshi MLA from Meerut who has been suspended for hurting Sikh community through his statement. Haji Yaqub Qureshi is 14th leader and 10th sitting MLA against whom action has been taken by chief minister Mayawati. The MLAs suspended from BSP in last two months included Yogednra Sagar, Guddu Pandit, Satish Verma, Awadh Pal Singh, Shebahadur Singh, Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel, Malik Masood, Dasrath Prasad Chauhan and Fareed Mehfooz Kidwai and Dhananjay Singh MP.
In order to win over jats and Muslims in western UP, chief minister Mayawati is all set to announce creation of three new districts. Hapur, Shamli and Deoband on October 2. This step is bound to bring jats and Muslims to BSP fold especially in western UP where BSP will challenge BJP, SP, Congress and RLD.
As part of her strategy, chief minister Mayawati has written several letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking inclusion of more castes in the reserved category by raising the existing quota and providing them quota within the quota. She has now asked for quota for Muslims and jats within OBCs as per their share in the population. Significantly enough Mayawati has demanded that 24 most backwards classes now listed in OBCs be shifted to list of Scheduled Castes. Mayawati has also asked the inclusion of Muslims and Christian dalits in SC category.
In order to win over poor upper caste people, she has asked for reservation for them as well. At the same time she wants to extend the reservation from government services to judiciary and private sector. The lsit of MBCs that Mayawati wants to be included in SC list are; Kahar, Kashyap, Kewat, Mallah, Nishad,Bind, Kumharm, Prajapati, Dhimar, Bhar, batham, Rajbhar, Dhivar, Turha, Majhi, Machhua, Lonia, Nonia, Lonia-Chauhan, Pal, Baghel and Dhanker.
Political observers opine that Mayawati wanted to give message to these communities tht she was interested in their welfare and central government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh was not taking proper interest. (IPA Service)
