His said that his party’s position is perfectly in tune with the decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security on in September last year. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also asked for revoking AFSPA.

“The Cabinet Committee on Security in which I am a member had suggested a 8-point programme for bringing back normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. We suggested the state Chief Minister to call for a meeting of the Unified Command with a view to study the possibilities for reducing the number of bunkers and review the disturbed area districts,” Chidambaram said.

He said that the Jammu and Kashmir interlocutors had submitted their final report on October 12 and his ministry was examining it. On October 14, the Centre reimbursed Rs 26.44 crore to the Jammu and Kashmir Government under SRE Scheme.

The Minister said the investigative agencies were looking for three persons in connection with the recent Delhi High Court blast case.

The Home Minister said that the National Investigating Agency would not oppose the bail pleas of the nine accused arrested by the police in the 2006 Malegaon bomb blast case.

Chidambaram said a movement towards a decision on the Telangana issue will take place after the Eid-ul-Zuha festival. He said Congress General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had conveyed to different groups in the state that since the festival season was going on, the discussions on this issue .was kept in abeyance.

The Union Home Minister expressed concerns over the blockade in Manipur entering the 93rd day and said on an average 1100 trucks per week would be sent to the state to ferry essential items. The Centre is in negotiations with the ULFA outfit in Assam and the first round of talks were encouraging. Peace pact would soon be inked with UPDS, another outfit in Assam.
