It is learnt officially that within the Government National Informatics Centre (NIC) and Centre for Development of Advance Computing (CDAC) have done exploratory work regarding introduction, efficacy and suitability of cloud computing in Indian system of governance. Besides, technological centres of excellence like IITs have undertaken major academic exercises in research and development for cloud computing. Platform. In the private sector as well, almost all large IT companies are investing heavily in R & D and development of tools, technology and software for cloud computing.
According to the official sources, at present, there is no legal framework in the country to tackle the issues arising out from the use of cloud computing technology. The current law, the Information Technology Act, 2000, is not sufficient to tackle such challenges. In this context, it is learnt officially that the IT Act may have to be amended to take care of such complex issues.
As for the security and sustainability of the cloud computing technology, issues like risk of scale on performance and availability, technology risks and management of infrastructure as a service (TaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) are the challenges that may create problems in configuration and operation management. Some other areas of prime concern would be vendor lock-jn, standards and interoperability, technology obsolescence, security of data and national security. The IT Department also envisages some of the legal challenges in the form of contract management, exit options available in the organization, data retention or transfer by the provider, data security, retention and recovery of data in the event of disaster, and intellectual property issues.
Cloud computing is an emerging web application intended to increase all round productivity. It is magical and works smarter, communicates, organizes and collaborates from anywhere. It provides single interface from where one can communicate with ease, be it email, messaging, phone or video call. It has a platform to organize efficiently, plan meetings and projects easily. It is more collaborative to share ideas, work faster and innovate at speed. The other advantage of cloud computing is that its user can communicate, organize and collaborate while mobile. That is user can be productive anywhere. It is also the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers.
Besides, cloud-computing lets one use files and applications over the internet. It allows consumers and businesses to use applications. Cloud computing is a device with Personal Computer (PC) and all ones mobile devices in sync all the time to access all of ones personal data at any given moment, with ability to organize and mine data from any online source and to share that data, photos, movies, contacts, email documents and related matters with ones friends, family and coworkers in an instant. This is what personal cloud computing promises to deliver.
Traditional business application platforms are too complicated and expensive. They need a data centre, a complex software stack and a team of experts to run them. The cloud computing has transformed all such complexities into simple and single point application for all types of business modules as well as for personal data and information management.
Cloud computing has the potential to sound death knell to actual ownership of media, centralizing data, rationing usage and eliminating anonymity. In other words, ones computer would be reduced to a terminal used to access something (a hard drive monolith), which looks inevitable.
There are apprehensions in the Government, corporate sectors and academic circles regarding security measures against likely data theft and related concerns before whole hog introduction of cloud computing. Steps are underway to secure applicability of the magic of cloud computing in the country. But whatever it be the cloud computing will usher in a meaningful knowledge society with a trigger to accelerate the emerging knowledge based economy!
Challenges of cloud computing in India

The Union Government in Department of Information Technology has embarked on introduction of Cloud computing (shared platform), the latest IT marvel, in National e-Governance regimen for quick implementation and roll out of citizen centric e-Governance services, notwithstanding the fact that National e-Governance Division in the IT Department is not aware of the suitability of applicability of cloud computing for e-Governance.
