They are also expected to discuss issues relating to infrastructure, transport, services and energy sectors, according to sources.

“The Royal family of Spain has a strong and abiding interest in India. The visit of His Majesty is expected to carry forward the process of high-level interaction and deepen the relations between the two countries,” said the Spokesperson on the Indian External Affairs Ministry, Syed Akhbaruddin.

King Juan Carlos I will be on a State Visit to India from October 24-27, 2012. He will be accompanied by senior Cabinet Ministers, officials and businessmen. He will be in Mumbai and Delhi during the course of his visit.

While in Delhi, His Majesty the King of Spain will be accorded a ceremonial welcome on October 26 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He will call on the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee who will host a State Banquet in his honour.

“As Spain is the midst of Eurozone crisis, India would be interested in knowing how it is dealing with the crisis,” Akbaruddin said.

Earlier King Juan Carlos I had been on a state visit to India and was the Chief Guest in the 1982 Republic Day Parade Ceremony.

India-Spain bilateral trade in the year 2011 was close to $ 5 billion, which represents a growth of almost 18% over 2010. Spanish investment in India is over $ 1.3 billion. India’s total investment in Spain is valued around Euro 605 million. Mutually beneficial opportunities for investments by Spanish companies in India exist in a number of sectors such as infrastructure, transport, energy, amongst others.
