While Bahujan Samaj Party is supporting the bill in parliament to restore promotion quota for SC/STs, its main rival Samajwadi Party is all out to oppose the bill.

The day the controversial bill was taken up in Rajya Sabha, over 18 lakh state government employees in UP went on an indefinite strike with the support of ruling party. On the other hand, Dalit officers said that they would work extra four hours to clear backlog.

BSP supremo is hell bent on supporting the bill for promotion quota for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, who constitute major vote share of BSP in UP.

BSP supremo Mayawati is demanding support from Congress for saving UPA government on the issue of FDI. Mayawati wants Congress should mount pressure on other political parties to ensure that bill is passed in the both House of parliament.

BSP sources maintain that once the bill as passed in Parliament BSP would gain all over the country consolidate its core votes. BSP leaders feel that Mayawati would emerge as main voice of dalits all over the country and would emerge as national leader.

Mayawati has the support of all those government employees who belong to scheduled caste and scheduled tribes.

In order to win over other backwards castes (OBCs) too, Mayawati is now saying that she would support quota in promotions for backwards too.

There is a realisation in BSP camp that party would be able to consolidate its vote share in all over the county which would help party in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The political analyst feels that Mulayam Singh Yadav and his party will, gain from their stand to oppose the promotion quota. Samajwadi party leadership feel BSP had antagonized upper caste voters through its stand in promotion reservation bill and all those upper caste people who had voted to BSP in the past would now vote to SP

Samajwadi party national President Mulayam Singh Yadav has been saying that proposed bill for quota in promotion would further divide the society, which was against the interest of the country.

Mulayam Singh Yadav has already support of backwards and he would be able to retain its upper caste. It would be worth mentioning here that Mulayam Singh Yadav and his party got the tremendous support from upper caste beside backwards and Muslim in 2012 assembly polls, which brought Akhilesh Yadav as youngest CM in the country.

Samajwadi Party leaders openly supporting state government employees for their agitation to protest promotion quota.

The state government employees are out on the street and two rival factions confronting each other.

Pro-reservation employees known as Arakshan Bachao Samiti led by Awadesh Verma are saying that states like Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand had already given the reservation in promotion then why not in UP.

On the other hand, Shailendra Dubey, president of Sarvjan Hitai Sanrakshan Samiti, which is leading the agitation against the bill said that state government employees had gone to High Court and Supreme Court against Mayawati government order for reservation in promotion and apex court stayed the order.

Shailendra Dubey informed that during BSP rule in UP Dalit officers were given promotion and general category officer ha to retire without getting promotion.

Two major political parties, Congress and BJP, are too on the hit list of agitating government employees.

The agitating government employees were raising slogans against Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, others like Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati and BJP leadership too were not spared. So much so that the BJP sate headquarter witnessed vandalism by the employees. (IPA Service)
