They also discussed with concern the deteriorating situation in West Asia and North Africa, particularly in reference to Syria, Libya and Male, here on Thursday.
The Indian National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon is slated to have bilateral discussions with the Chinese State Councilor, Dai Bingguo on Friday.
“We (Indian NSA and his Chinese counterpart) are meeting tomorrow. Most of us are doing bilateral discussions on the sidelines. Some have taken place, some will happen tomorrow, some just after this,” Menon said.
When asked whether he would discuss border issues with his Chinese counterpart, Menon said : “We will discuss our whole relationship.”
Menon described the BRICS national security advisors meeting as “constructive, positive, forward looking.”
“There was a high level of congruence in our discussion of these issues. We found it very useful, in fact useful enough that at the end everyone said we must do this again. That gives you an idea of how successful the participants thought it was,” he said
The discussions would feed into the agenda of the 5th BRICS Summit Level Meeting slated in Durban in March, this year. Several ad hoc committees are likely to be set up. The concept of BRICS Bank for Infrastructure Development will be discussed in the Durban Summit.
