The JMSDF chief is on a two day official visit to India.

Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano discussed a wide range of subjects of mutual interest in the maritime domain, including the cooperation between Indian Navy and the JMSDF in combating piracy off the Gulf of Aden.

Admiral Kawano had a detailed discussion with the Chief of the Indian Navy Admiral DK Joshi at Naval Headquarters on joint strategy for maritime security.

India has a strategic partnership with Japan. The Prime Ministers of the two countries meet at summit level talks. The next India-Japan Summit Level talks are expected to take place in Tokyo soon.

Japan is India’s strategic ally in the Pacific Ocean, particularly in the context of the rise of China as a global political and economic power. Japan has Observer status in SAARC and is also associated with the ASEAN group of nations with which India is a Dialogue Partner and has Summit Level talks.

Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano will visit the Western Naval Command Headquarters at Mumbai tomorrow, where he will interact with Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha, FOC-in-C Western Naval Command.
