By definition, the concept of Moksh is total liberation from all the worldly miseries.

Hence, it is not possible inside the fold of this physical world, because this physical world in itself is an illusion, a temporary truth. In this way, even religions are temporary truth, because these are very much part of our physical world.

Therefore, even religions are illusions.

While we pursue Moksh, the first thing we want to remove, is the trap of illusion that seems to be temporarily true.

That is why, some of the philosophers argue that attaining Moksh is not possible while we are alive, because the life is the part of this physical world. According to them, when a person attains Moksh, the person goes outside the cycle of this birth and death.

However, some philosophers emphasize on attaining Moksh in this life itself. It may be something lesser than attaining freedom from the bondage of this physical world or life and death, but it is important on account of wisdom to try for this attainment in the framework of this physical world. Even if we achieve certain level of freedom from tribulations and miseries of life, it is certainly worth pursuing. Such an attainment, they say, makes a person Jeevanmukta (attained freedom in this life).

Let us not forget that Moksh is the fourth pursuit of life, but in essence it is the fundamental objective of all the three pursuits - Dharm, Arth and Kama. For all the efforts of human beings are primarily for Kama (pleasure of the senses), which are helped by the Arth (Wealth). These two combines to solve many of our tribulations. However, many miseries remain even after that and we need some guiding principles to make our life smoother. Here comes some of the guiding principles in the form of a religion, which lead us finally to Dharm (The Religion). This Dharm gives us certain level of the Bliss, This Bliss is worth attaining, but even this falls short of our fundamental quest for Moksh, the absolute freedom, salvation or whatever you may like to term it.

Therefore, we need Moksh in this life and beyond. We will discuss how to achieve it in other articles, but before that we need to understand some more important things that deal with the limitations of this physical world as well as its unlimited sphere. We need to understand the temporal nature of this universe and then its permanency. In other words, we need to understand the mortality of life, and then its immortality.
