The Samajwadi Party spokesman said that his party would demand that central forces be sent to the state as the Mayawati government would misuse official machinery in favour of BSP candidates as happened during the recently concluded by-elections for four assembly seats. The BSP had won three out of the four assembly seats in these by-elections.
The SP spokesman said his party would also highlight the diversion of central funds for construction of statues and memorials as the cost of development of the state, adding that victimisation of party workers and the dictatorial attitude of the Mayawati government will also be taken up during the campaign.
Samajwadi Party leaders said that the minorities were also unhappy with the government as bureaucrats were taking oppressive measure against people belonging to the minority communities, especially Muslims in villages.
Atrocities against women, especially Dalits, were on the rise during the Mayawati regime, they said. A compensation of Rs 25,000 for a rape victim is nothing but an eye-wash.
On its part, the Congress will highlight the manner in which the house of UPCC president Mrs Rita Bahuguna was set on fire and no action was taken by Mayawati government against the culprits.
Congress spokesman Subodh Srivastav said instead of taking action the culprits, the Mayawati government gave plum postings to those named in the FIR.
Congress is also determined to highlight the neglect of Dalits by the Mayawati government and Rahul Gandhi's regular interaction with Dalits.
Non-implementation of central government schemes, especially NREGA, will also be highlighted by Congress in its campaign.
Senior leaders of BJP including former state president Kalraj Mishra recently said in Lucknow that his party would raise the issue of misuse of the Harijan Act in the state.
The BJP will also highlight the manner in which crores of rupees were spent on construction of statues and memorials while there were no funds for power generation and development.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister has asked party workers and leaders to inform the people about the achievements of the government.(IPA)
