Speaking at a gathering of Muslims from all over the country, the Chairman of Strive for Eminence and Employment (SEE) Maulana Mohammed Fazlurahim Mujaddidi said here on Sunday that “43% of urban Muslims in Gujarat are facing the challenges of the 21st century. In rural areas the situation is worse.”
According to Mujaddidi, who is widely known as cleric-with-IT knowledge, the challenges of the for having 21st century are different from those in the 20th century. India is the fastest growing economy after China. If the country has to grow the development of Muslims is a necessary part of the inclusive growth process. The challenges of the 20th century was roti, kapda aur makan (food, clothing and shelter), but in the 21st century these challenges are for having a decent living with affordability for nutritious food and a good dwelling place.
“Every state provides pre-matric scholarship to Muslims expect Gujarat. Implementation of welfare schemes is poor in Gujarat,” said Mujaddidi who is a member of the steering committee of the Planning Commission.
The External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid who was present on the occasion hoped that the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court would sympathetically consider the proposal of 4% reservation for minority community as quota within quota.
