On Sunday morning Bodhgaya was rocked by a serial blast of nine bombs injuring some people including some monks and a pilgrim from Myanmar. No damage was caused to the temple and the holy tree.
According to initial reports the blasts was triggered off by the terrorists seeking to revenge the recent killings and harassment of Muslims in the Buddhist country, Myanmar
The Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai who is in Myanmar for regular Foreign Office Consultations called on the Myanmar Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin in Naw Pyi Taw on Monday and assured him of the necessary steps to be taken to ensure the safety and security of foreign pilgrims in future.
During the course of the meeting the issue of injury to a pilgrim from Myanmar in the recent attack in Bodhgaya was discussed.
Mathai assured the Myanmar Foreign Minister that Bodhgaya remains a place of peace and pilgrimage. He informed that the injured pilgrim was not in danger and was being taken care of. The outcome of the investigations would be shared with Myanmar
The Myanmar Foreign Minister condemned the incident and the net of terrorism. It was agreed that this underlines the need for greater cooperation in the field of security.
Mathai also called on the Opposition party leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who expressed her shock at the incident. She was reassured that Bodhgaya remains a place of peace and pilgrimage and expressed her happiness at this.
As part of India's engagement with all sections of Myanmar society Foreign Secretary also met with the Commander in Chief of the armed forces Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation.

New Delhi: Following the serial bomb blasts at Bodhgaya, India has assured Myanmar that the sacred Buddhist pilgrim site would remain to be peaceful in future and the safety of foreign pilgrims would be assured.
