The third meeting of Russia-India-China (RIC) foreign ministers’ meeting on Sunday expressed the need for facing new security challenges. They discussed the need for resolving the crisis in Syria and Egypt and urged the international community to help in the peaceful transition in Afghanistan through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process.
“We reviewed the situation in Syria and Egypt and the evolving security architecture in Asia. We agreed to coordinate our efforts at G-20, SCO and EAS. We favoured a sustainable and lasting solution to the Syrian crisis,” said the Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid after the conclusion of RIC foreign ministers’ meeting.
“Our enhanced strategic cooperation will generate positive energy,” said the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
He said that the world leaders should ensure that elections are held peacefully in Afghanistan. They should assist in the political reconciliation process which should be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned, The UN should be continuing to help in the process that ensures peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Apart from the situation in Syria, Egypt and Afghanistan the Russian Foreign Minister Sergay Lavrov expressed the need for peacefully resolving the North Korean issue.
On Syria, he said that P3+3 would meet soon this month. He said all sections of the Syrian society should be involved in efforts to resolve the crisis. The Iran issue should also be resolved through negotiations. “There is no alternative to negotiations,” he said.
RIC agrees to develop alternate security architecture in Asia-Pacific

New Delhi: Russia and China has roped in India to develop an alternative security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region evidently in response to the US policy of seeking rebalancing in the area.
