Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, who is on a private visit to India, held talks with Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh here on Friday.

The two leaders discussed the entire gamut of bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern. Karzai's visit comes at a time, Kabul seeks to enhance economic engagements and security cooperation with New Delhi.

The NATO troops are set to pull out from Afghanistan by next year.

The Official Spokesperson in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Syed Akbaruddin confirmed that discussions on BSA came up during Karzaiā€™s meeting with Dr Singh.

'Both see the agreement important for security and stability of Afghanistan,' Akbaruddin said. He said India's approach was not 'prescriptive, intrusive or judgemental'.

He said India was confident Karzai would do what was best for Afghanistan.

The BSA would mandate the size and shape of the US military presence in Afghanistan after the NATO combat mission ends in 2014. Karzai has refused to sign the BSA unless his conditions are met. They include the release of all Afghan prisoners from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and an end to military operations involving Afghan homes.

Karzai, who arrived in India Thursday on a four-day visit, discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual concern with the prime minister. Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid held talks with President Karzai.

Karzai also met the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

Speaking to a private TV channel, the Afghanistan President urged Indian business to come forward and seize the opportunity in the ongoing political and economic transition in his country.

Karzai welcomed investments in mining and assured Indian businesses of providing adequate security.

The Afghan President said, a new mining policy to regulate the sector, was awaiting approval of the Afghan parliament and is expected to be passed soon.

Karzai is slated to address a joint business interaction organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India and the Confederation of Indian Industry in Pune on Saturday.

On Sunday he is scheduled to address the students and faculty at Symbiosis International University in Pune. He will also interact with foreign students at Vishwabhavan Auditorium.
