The Official Spokesperson in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Syed Akbaruddin said : “We proceed in our relations with Bangladesh on the basis of principles of mutual respect, mutual benefit, non-interference, and respect for each other’s sovereignty. It is for the people of Bangladesh to decide upon their future. We have deep respect for their wisdom and achievements. And we are confident that as a democracy the people of Bangladesh will resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means in an atmosphere free of violence.”
The execution of the death sentence of Abdul Quader Molla was an outcome of the internal judicial processes and laws of Bangladesh, he said.
Akbaruddin said that the Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh during her recent visit to US did discuss Bangladesh issue with the US Secretary of State John Kerry, apart from regional issues in South Asia.
“We have acknowledged this previously also that there have been conversations between India and US as we are engaged in a strategic partnership which covers a variety of regional, international and bilateral issues, we do cover issues in the region including in this case the issue related to Bangladesh”, he said.
Akbaruddin further clarified : “It is for the people of Bangladesh to decide their future. We have deep respect for their wisdom and achievements. And we are confident that as a democracy the people of Bangladesh will resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means in an atmosphere free of violence.”

New Delhi: With polls due in Bangladesh early next year, India has chosen to take a neutral attitude to the violence in Bangladesh following the execution of the Assistant Secretary-General of Jamaat-e-Islami, Abdul Quader Molla. Even though Hindus have been a target of attack at places, India has put the onus on Bangladesh Government to “peacefully resolve the Issue” instead of being seen as interfering in the internal affairs of that country.
