Former journalist and now prominent leader of India America Leadership Council and businessman Vinod Ghildyal said that the willingness of US government to improve relations with India were quite apparent when President Barack Obama himself congratulated Narendra Modi after the spectacular victory of BJP under his leadership. Reciprocating the gesture of President Obama, PM Modi also accepted the invitation to visit US in September.

‘In order to strengthen the relationship, President Barack Obama sent Nisha Desai Biiswal, the point person for South and Central Asia for Obama administration, to Delhi during first week of June to discuss the important issues between the two countries and proposed visit of Modi to US,’ Ghildyal pointed out. The Indian community is also excited by the recent development when a prominent lawmaker of US wrote to the Speaker to request him to invite Mr Narendra Modi to address joint session of US Congress during his visit to US.

In his letter to the Speaker John Boener, Ed Royce chairman of the House Foreign Affair Committee said that Narendra Modi should be given the honour to address the joint session of US Congress. In order to emphasise his point Mr Roce said that while giving rare honour to Modi to address the joint session, US would not only get much-needed partner in South Asia and boost the trade relations between the two countries.

It may be mentioned that Indo-US relations had received major setback with arrest and strip-search of the Indian lady diplomat Devyani Khobragade who was accused of underpaying her maid and then lying about it publicly. It is also important to recall here that US government had denied visa to the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in 2005 following large scale killings of persons mostly Muslims during communal riot in Gujarat during his regime.

Indian community including NRIs also expect that Narendra Modi will take up the issues concerning those employed in IT sector and protect their interests especially related to outsourcing work to India. Vinod Ghildyal, who had led delegation of American businessmen in various countries in the past, feel that US businessmen and corporate companies would make huge investment in India especially in infrastructure and power. Exuding confidence Vinod Ghildyal said that he was confident that Modi government would be able to attract huge investment in India. (IPA Service)
