More than twenty thousand Swayam Sewak attended the four-day camp. The unique feature of this camp was that meals for all the twenty thousand Swayam Sewaks were arranged by citizens of Sagar. The importance of Sagar camp can be assessed by the fact that besides Sarsangh Chalak Mohan Bhagwat, it was also attended by several important functionaries of the Sangh they included Sah Karyawah Dattatray Hosbole, Suresh Soni, Krishn Mohan and important organisers from Malwa, Madhya Bharat and Mahakoshal.
During the four-day camp, the top functionaries reviewed the functioning of the MP government. Bhagwat in the course of his dialogue with the swayam sewaks told them they should not expect too much in too short a time from the Modi government 'Modi is not a magician who can give everything within seconds'. By saying so he clarified the impression that he was not satisfied with the functioning of the Modi government.
In the course of his addresses to the swayam sewaks, he made several controversial comments. For instance, he claimed that Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore also wanted India to be Hindu Rashtra.
Invoking legendary Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore in support of Hindutva, the RSS chief said that in an essay written in the book 'Swadeshi Samaj' at the time of Bengal partition, Tagore had said that Hindutva was one ideology that had the capacity to take all the religions along and ensure communal harmony.
Bhagwat was all praise for Israel in his speech while addressing a gathering of RSS volunteers on the last day of his four-day stay in Sagar town on Sunday.
He expressed dissatisfaction over India's 'weak' defence preparedness and said Israel, which was created almost at the same time as India, gives tit for tat to all its hostile neighbours but India appears to be on a weak wicket on this front.
Israel not only overcame its adversaries but now it is a well-developed country and is making excellent progress in the field of agriculture and technological advancement, he said. As against Israel, India appears to be backward, he added.
Bhagwat said the country should always come first and our great leaders irrespective of their lineage have said so in clear terms.
The RSS chief also reiterated that only Hindutva is the way of life that could be the common thread to bring the people of India together with the dedication to live and die for the country.
He further said the critics of RSS should come to shakhas and see for themselves how an RSS swayam sevak (volunteer) was groomed before making an opinion about the outfit and its exponents.
Bhagwat also gave example of Communist party founder MN Rai and said that he had highlighted in his book that for a country's development, change of heart of its people with good values instilled in them was a must.
According to reports coming from Sagar, Bhagwat met many important sangh functionaries to take feedback on the functioning of the Shivraj Singh government. According to sources, several office-bearers of the RSS and leaders of auxiliary organisations complained to Bhagwat against the state government. Most of the complaints related to the law and order situation in the state and RSS leaders questioned the working of the Police. Bhagwat was told that innocent Hindus were being implicated in the incidents of communal violence in the state. The leaders from the Malwa region told Bhagwat about police framing Hindus. RSS chief was also informed about the corruption by government officials at district level.
Sangh functionaries pointed out that the image of the BJP stands tarnished because of the corruption both at the top and grass root level. They pointed out that quick steps should be taken to punish the guilty. Sangh functionaries claimed that corruption charges indirectly affects the image of the RSS because people at large think that the RSS and BJP are interlinked and inseparable.
On receiving the reports of complaint made to the RSS Chief Shivraj Singh Chouhan sought appointment with the RSS chief and proposes to meet him at Timarni, a small town of the state, where Bhagwat is expected to spend some time.
Meanwhile the state leadership of the BJP is making all out attempt to retain Municipal Corporations of Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur. Chief Minister Chauhan and state party chief Nand Kumar Chauhan are addressing a series of meeting in the three towns which are going to polls on January 29.
State leadership to its shock received the reports that Kailash Vijayvargiya, a powerful Minister who wields considerable influence in Indore has decided to stay away from the campaigns for the party nominees. It is a fact that if Vijayvargiya remains neutral it will adversely affect the fortunes of BJP candidates in Indore. Realizing the seriousness of the situation Arvind Menon, who is organisation secretary and happens to be link between the RSS and the BJP rushed to Indore to persuade Vijayvargiya to actively campaigns for the party nominees. BJP is taking special care in these elections following defeats of the party nominees in some such Chhattisgarh corporations which were controlled by the BJP. (IPA Service)
