Muslims leaders feel that since Muslim community had always been backing Samajwadi Party, the time had come for the government to follow the sentiments of the community and file appeal against CBI court in Hasimpura incidents of May 1987 when Muslims were killed by the men in khaki uniform.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board at its recent meeting discussed the CBI court verdict which acquitted all the 16 accused persons for the lack of evidence and demanded that government should go to higher court for appeal. The spokesman also blamed the state government for inordinate delay in the verdict which came after 28 years.
Jamiat Ulama-e-hind also demanded that Akhilesh Yadav government should file appeal in the higher court to challenge the verdict. The leaders of the organization also announced that they would help victims families in raising funds for them.
Rihai Manch, a social organization committed for social harmony and fight for those illegally detained by the police, also announced that it would organize peoples movement shortly to take up Hasimpura incidents. Rajiv Yadav, office-bearer of Rihai manch said that government should make public the report of Gyan Prakash committee set up to probe incidents of Hasimpura and Maliana in Meerut.
Prominent author, writer and former IPS officer VN Rai, who as SP Ghaziabad, was first among those who reached to spot near Hindon River where bodies from Hashimpura were located, also demanded that government should file appeal.
VN Rai also demanded reinvestigation of Hashimpura incidents of 1987 when muslim youths were killed by the police. VN Rai is of the opinion that the investigation on the incidents where in wrong direction which helped the culprits to get acquitted from the court. Rai said that it was difficult to believe that junior officers were responsible in the planning and killing of people in Hashimpura and Maliana in Meerut.
Left parties also held demonstrations and staged dharna in several parts of state capital to mount pressure on state government to file appeal in higher court so that victims and their families get justice. Samajwadi Party spokesman and senior cabinet minister Rajendra Choudhry said that government would get the verdict of CBI court examined and then a proper decision would be taken. (IPA Service)
