INDIA’S LATEST PORT RESTRICTIONS HIT BANGLADESH GARMENTS INDUSTRY HARD

DHAKA WORKING OUT WAYS TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM BY DIVERSION OF PRODUCTS
Kunal Bose - 2025-05-22 11:46
Some six weeks ago, I went to the only outlet of Marks & Spencer at the Forum Mall in Kolkata to buy clothes to be given as gifts of gratitude for the Bengali New Year, that is Naba Borsho. What surprised me to no end is the overwhelming majority of clothing items stored at the M&S shop is outsourced to Bangladesh. But that left me happy not only because my parents hailed from Bikrampur across the border but also due to the sophistication that the garment industry in Bangladesh had acquired to become the second largest foreign exchange earner of the country next to remittances from workers abroad, particularly in Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf countries.

DELETING THE HISTORY OF MUGHAL KINGS FROM SCHOOL HISTORY BOOKS DOES NOT SERVE NATIONALISM

BJP LED GOVERNMENT IS SPREADING A DISTORTED VERSION OF INDIA’S PAST TO THE STUDENTS
Dr. Ram Puniyani - 2025-05-22 11:43
The new education policy 2020 is being implemented gradually. Apart from other things it has focused on Indian Knowledge systems and Indian traditions. The changes which pertain to History have deleted Delhi Sultanate and Mughal rule from the books. A good seven centuries of history stands relegated into absentia. This is a pretty long period by any standards. “While NCERT had previously trimmed sections on the Mughals and Delhi Sultanate - including detailed account of dynasties like Tughlaqs, Khaljis, Mamluks, and Lodis and a two-page table on Mughal emperors' achievements as part of its syllabus rationalization during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022-23, the new textbook has now removed all references to them.”

SUPREME COURT CORRECTS A FATEFULLY WRONG DECISION AFTER A DECADE’S DELAY

BUT SILENT VICTIMS OF THE FLAWED POLICY REMAIN WRONGED FOR EVER
K Raveendran - 2025-05-21 10:45
The Supreme Court’s revocation of the 2002 provision allowing fresh law graduates to apply for civil judge posts marks the end of a deeply flawed and impractical policy that persisted for over two decades. While the phrase “better late than never” may feel appropriate on the surface, it hardly captures the depth of the issue or the long-standing consequences that arose from what was, in hindsight, an ill-conceived judicial experiment. For 23 years, the Indian judiciary functioned under a decision that ignored the critical value of practical legal experience, permitting individuals with no courtroom exposure, and often no real-world legal understanding, to ascend to positions of great judicial responsibility. It is not merely a matter of policy correction; it is a belated recognition of a fundamental truth: that there is no adequate substitute for experience in the practice of law, especially in the judiciary.

It has led to a situation in which children’s fundamental right under Right to Education (RTE) is being violated.

DONALD TRUMP NOW TALKING OF GOLDEN DOME TO PROTECT U.S. CITIZEN’S SECURITY

U.S. PRESIDENT’S SON LOOKING FOR A BIG DEAL ON FINDING GOLD DEPOSITS IN INDUS WATERS
Sushil Kutty - 2025-05-21 10:35
For a certified peacenik, with no appetite for war, United States President Donald Trump can confound. That's because Trump's 'USA First' potentially pits the United States against all and sundry other countries. President Trump's threats and theatrics does not help. Witness the tariff wars he started and the plethora of altercations with a number of countries for no fault of theirs.
