SOCIAL COHESION IS IMPERATIVE IN PRESENT PERIOD OF PANDEMIC

PROTECTING MENTAL HEALTH IS NOW A MAJOR CHALLENGE
Dr. Arun Mitra - 2020-07-17 10:11
Three main precautions are suggested to prevent oneself from Novel Corona Virus infection. These include washing hands regularly, putting mask on face to cover mouth and nose, and maintaining ‘social distance’. All the conscious citizens in general are following these instructions as advised by the medical scientists. There are however some issues on how to wear the mask, from where to hold it, which parts of the face to cover, what type of material to use for the mask, how long to wash hands and the way to use the sanitizer etc. These all need constant education to the people.

SURGICAL STRIKE OF CBSE CURRICULUM IS MOTIVATED

SECULAR AND CONSTITUTIONAL VALUES ARE DOWNGRADED
Binoy Viswam - 2020-07-17 10:07
The rightist forces committed to the ideology of fascism have always been keen to impress upon the minds of the young generation their own line of thoughts. The guiding principle of Hitler in this regard was "catch them young". Once in power they do everything possible to translate this principle into practice. For them the meaning of pedagogy is to brain wash the young. The syllabus, the curriculum, the classrooms, and extracurricular activities - all are moulded to suit their schemes. That has become the essential characteristics of the educational policies of rightist governments the world over. Under the RSS controlled BJP regime India is following the oft beaten path of the rightists. It started with the New Education Policy which was designed to suit the tune of right reactionary hyper nationalism. The Indian education system from kindergarten to university is falling prey to this obscurantist offensive.

WORLD BANK CLAIM ON POVERTY REDUCTION IS DECEPTIVE

NUMBER OF POOR HAS NOT DECLINED OUTSIDE CHINA, EAST ASIA
Prabhat Patnaik - 2020-07-17 10:04
There is much self-congratulatory back-slapping among governments, the World Bank officials and many economists about the “decline in poverty” that is supposed to have occurred between 1990 and the onset of the recent pandemic. This decline is claimed on the basis of an International Poverty Line (IPL) of $ 1.90 a day (at 2011 Purchasing Power Parity) worked out by the Bank, which basically defines poverty across the world as lack of access over one day to the bundle of goods that $1.90 would have bought in the US in 2011.

RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT IS UNDER THREAT AT PRESENT

TEN YEAR OLD INTERIM ORDER HOLDS CIC TOGETHER
Nipun Arora and Annanya Mehan - 2020-07-16 17:07
Several activists and scholars, including former information commissioners, have recently expressed concern over the government’s dilution of the Right to Information Act (RTI). However, the threat to right to information is not only from the government but from within the Central Information Commission (CIC) as well.

SACHIN PILOT PLAYED WELL BUT FAILED TO HIT THE NET

CONGRESS HIGH COMMAND CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE HIM
Sushil Kutty - 2020-07-16 17:04
As a boy he must have flown a paper plane, the kind made with yesterday’s ‘homework’ written on it! But the grown up Sachin Pilot it seems once he’s taken off, he has no clue where to land after the ‘tower’ tells him to flap his wings and weather the ‘whether’, this way or that way, remain in the Congress hanger or crash-land in saffron turbulence. Poor Sachin Pilot, he’s being called a clean shaven, clean-cut ‘English-speaking pretty boy’ who shouldn’t be too ambitious for his own good!

OLD GUARDS AND YOUNG TURKS DIVIDE CONGRESS BADLY

PARTY MUST FIND OUT A SOLUTION COMBINING BEST OF BOTH
Arun Srivastava - 2020-07-16 17:01
Congress is systematically getting down to the trap of old guards versus young turks laid by Rahul Gandhi. In the seventies, when Indira Gandhi ruled the roost, the young turks dictated the course of the Congress politics. They were so dominant that Chandra Shekhar contested for the CWC berth much against the wishes of Indira and won overwhelmingly. Indira Gandhi remained a mute spectator. She had to accept the reality.

MIGRANT WORKFORCE IS A BIG ASSET TO INDIAN ECONOMY

MODI GOVT HAS TO WORK FOR A TOTAL PACKAGE FOR THEIR WELFARE
Subrata Majumder - 2020-07-16 15:57
Notwithstanding migrant workers playing a key role in boosting the economy, bare attention was given to the state of migrant workers. They were pivot to infrastructure development and export oriented industries. With the rapid growth of urbanization, which opened employment opportunities, movement of workers from rural to urban areas perked up. But little policy directives were made for the welfare and protection of the migrant workers.

ORDNANCE FACTORIES ARE THE JEWELS OF INDIA’S DEFENCE INDUSTRY

GOVT MUST MODERNISE THEM, NOT VILIFY THEIR PERFORMANCE
C Srikumar - 2020-07-16 15:55
What is the fourth force of the Defence of our Country? To defend the sovereignty and security of our Country we have the Army, Navy and Air Force, but then what is the fourth force. All of us know that war is fought in the battle field, but won through the Weapons, Ammunitions, keeping the troops comfortable to fight the battle in all odd situations with protective Uniforms and Clothing etc. The fourth force of Defence which the former Prime Minister late Rajeev Gandhi christened is the 41 Ordnance Factories which are the backbone of our Armed Forces. What does these Ordnance Factories does. Ordnance Factories have marched with time.
