BLOODY CONFRONTATION

Vijay Sanghvi - 2020-06-18 11:51
The unprovoked exchange of fire between Indian and Chinese force in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh in mid June resulted in spilling of heavy blood on both the sides. The Indian Prime Minister cautioned any more provocation would be met with appropriate response. India is not a weak nation. She is capable of meeting every threat. China also confirmed heavy casualties on its side but sued for peace.

HEALTH WORKERS ARE STILL SUFFERING FROM GOVERNMENT APATHY

THEY NEED MUCH MORE THAN TAALIES, THAALIES AND FLOWERS
Dr. Arun Mitra - 2020-06-18 10:46
The news that the doctor's and other health workers fighting COVID-19 have not been paid salary for several months in some places is a matter of shame. The Hon’ble Supreme Court reprimanded the government and directed to not suspend or file any case against those raising the issues of their concern. Statements by resident doctors working in the Municipal Corporation Delhi hospitals, that as a result they are unable to afford their day to day life, are awful indeed.

DIALOGUE IS THE ONLY WAY OUT TO SOLVE DIFFERENCES OVER BORDER

INDIA AND CHINA NEED PEACE IN THE REGION FOR SPEEDY DEVELOPMENT
Binoy Viswam - 2020-06-18 10:43
The escalation of tension across India -China border is a matter of great concern for all peace-loving people. It took an unexpected turn when 20 Indian soldiers were killed at Galwan valley. Those martyrs will be remembered as heroes of the nation. We hope that their families will be taken care of by the government. Though the Chinese side did not reveal their casualties, reports say that they also had damages including loss of human lives. Cross border interventions by any neighbour could not be tolerated by any country with self-respect. Territorial encroachment is nothing but attempt for territorial expansionism. In the past also China had expressed her affinity to that.

PEACEFUL RESOLUTION OF INDIA-CHINA ROW OVER LADAKH IS IMPERATIVE

TOP LEADERSHIPS HAVE TO HANDLE THE ISSUE WITH LONG TERM VISION
Mohan V Katarki - 2020-06-18 10:20
The surreptitious intrusion of Chinese Army into Ladakh in India in the first week of May has made many turn to the pages of history to appreciate the scope and merits of the India – China (Sino – Indian) border dispute over Aksai Chin area. Border disputes, undoubtedly, are complex and so is this dispute with regard to Aksai Chin. It involves appreciation of factual aspects of several demarcation lines drawn by the experts in the last one and half-century based on evidence of historic sovereign control, interpretation of the treaties and application of International law on State succession.

CHINESE INVASION

Vijay Sanghvi - 2020-06-17 16:31
I went through most toy shops in main markets in Delhi in 2013 to get a toy Indian Lion to aid my narration of Indian folklores to my three year old grand-daughter Meher. She used to snuggle in my company every night as she was fond of my dramatic narration of stories for tiny tots. I could not get what I wanted. Every toy shop keeper confirmed that only China made toys were available, as they were less than a third of price compared to India made toys, they said I would not get India made lion. All shops offered a toy that was patterned on the African lion, designed in America and made in China.

COURTS HAVE TO ADOPT HUMANITARIAN PRINCIPLES IN GRANTING BAIL

IN SAFOORA ZARGAR’S CASE, BASIC RULE WAS IGNORED
Mohd Kumail Haider - 2020-06-17 11:01
The word “bail” is derived from the old French verb baillier, which means to give or deliver. The word is also related to the Latin word bajulare meaning to bear a burden. The concept of bail can be traced back to 399 BC, when Plato tried to create a bond for the release of Socrates. The modern bail system evolved from a series of laws originating in the middle ages in England. In medieval England, the custom grew out of the need to free untied prisoners from disease-ridden jails while they were waiting for their delayed trials to be conducted.
