Barun Das Gupta - 2020-04-28 11:01
When the entire country was under a total lockdown due to the corona virus endemic, something happened in the Gadchinchale village in the Palghar district of Maharashtra that soon became a casus belli for the Hindutvavadis. It blew into a first class political battle between the Congress and the BJP. On April 16, two Hindu sadhus along with their driver were lynched by a vigilante group. It was a sequel to the charged atmosphere created by the rumour that thieves were active in the area. The sadhus and their driver were mistaken as thieves and killed. WEST BENGAL GOVERNOR BUSY FISHING IN SAFFRON WATERS

BEHIND JAGDEEP DHANKAR’S OPEN HOSTILITY TOWARDS CM MAMATA
Sankar Ray - 2020-04-28 09:58
The West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar’s tweets, read alongside his stand on the inter-ministerial central teams (IMCTs)visiting Bengal to assess COVID19 situation complaining that the IMCTs were not given access to facilities or officials in the state for the purpose of assessment, are a dead giveaway. DEMOCRACY IN INDIA NEEDS DISSENT TO BE CELEBRATED

CURTAILING THE RIGHTS OF MEDIA, CIVIL SOCIETY DISTURBING
Dr. Amal Sethi - 2020-04-27 13:20
Earlier this month, Sidharth Varadarajan, one of the leading journalistic voices against the ruling government, was served with an FIR based on a retracted tweet. He was asked to appear 650 km away in the middle of the central lockdown due to coronavirus to answer his charges. Similar actions were seen based on a single tweet (or rather retweet) against other prominent voices of dissent, such as lawyer Prashant Bhushan and former civil servant Kannan Gopinathan. But these events are not isolated incidents. The ruling government has been carrying out a systematic suppression of dissent at a scale not witnessed in recent years in India.
